After people expecting Sean to retire after Wimbledon, and a pretty disasterous start with Ruben (three tournaments, including a 10K futures !, where they lost in the first round, things seem to be picking up.

Title last week and a 7-5 6-1 victory here to go into the semis :)

Sean & Ruben justify their seeding in much more convincing fashion than yesterday:

QF:  (4) Ruben Gonzales (PHI) & Sean Thornley CR 395 (204+191) vs Marek Michalicka & Dominik Suc (CZE/CZE) CR570 (272+298) by 5 & 1  smile

****

SF:  (1) Dominik Meffert & Tim Pütz (GER/GER) CR 249 vs (4) Ruben Gonzales (PHI) & Sean Thornley CR 395 (204+191)

Their playing partnership is looking increasingly promising!

NB Sean's current ranking, on the ATP site, is WR 191.

Just to update his improvement.

Just noticed that 1st seed Pablo Cuevas is WR 40 (and also eliminated). Coming off of his tournament victory in Umag, was there really no chance of making Kitzbuhel via SE/WC? Never really like to see players like that in challengers unless they're the only option.

If he entered a challenger he is not allowed to then withdraw and play another tournament.

Cuevas has been on a ridiculous run the last three weeks if you look at his results, hency why he was here.

It really would seem as though the boys' playing partnership is starting to gel:

SF:  (4) Ruben Gonzales (PHI) & Sean Thornley CR 395 (204+191) defeated (1) Dominik Meffert & Tim Pütz (GER/GER) CR 249 by 5 & 1   jump.gif

Nice to see Sean having some success. I half expected that the end of his partnership with David Rice would be the beginning of the end for his career but it actually seems to have done him the world of good.
