RE: Entries - Week 32 - 04/08/14

Kyle has withdrawn from Bejar. Shame as I was definitely planning to go. But I guess that means he will be travelling stateside for US Open qualies. Hate to admit it, but I think that is the right decision.

Tara has withdrawn from Nottingham 10K

I hadn't realised Tara had a shoulder op post Wimby, just a minor one I would assume, but it would explain the lack of revs on her serve. I think she's back hitting again, but it might be a little while before she's back to full velocity.

I'd be shocked too - he's probably just sticking with what someone here said was the original plan.

Talking of Kyle's wild cards, http://www.tennisabstract.com/yearlies/ATP_2014_leaders.html has a list of those who have received the most WCs for ATP main tour events this year. The top 5 are:

8 Marcos Baghdatis
5 Kyle Edmund (Chennai, Marseille, Miami, Eastbourne, Wimbledon)
4 Ryan Harrison, Nick Kyrgios, James Ward (Dubai, Queen's, Eastbourne, Wimbledon)

I actually thought he may get a qualifying wildcard rather than main draw.

I've updated tables - main withdrawals are Edmund, JWH, Jack Carpenter, Moore and Dunne.

Wildcards for Nottingham should be announced tomorrow - Jess Simpson should make main draw. Eden should be first alt(excluding SE's)

I was wondering whether Kyle had managed to secure a WC for Winston Salem which is held the same week as the US Open Qualifying

Why would he look for a wildcard when he could get in direct?

Only one of those really stands out and thats Wardy!

that assumes he entered. He may not have bothered thinking his ranking wouldn't be high enough.

That would be a strangely pessimistic / careless attitude, if Kyle did have any desire to play in the US Open. I highly doubt it.

Next theory ?

Interesting to see who will get the wildcards at Nottingham - plenty of options

Sam and Naomi Cavaday aren't on the list, but aren't playing elsewhere.

All the GB qualifiers plus the college students, - Pippa, Tiffany, Sophie, Danieka, Brigit and then you have the junior players that have been doing well such as Emily. Allanah Griffin has had a few decent results at a lower junior level and then you have to add Nicola George with this week's win in contention.

I would suggest the four candidates are Freya, Emily, Jess and Fran/Eden

The wild cards weren't on ITF when I looked while compiling next week's T25 table a few minutes ago but I just went back to check something and suddenly they were there.

Main draw wild cards to:

- Jazzamay Drew (who I think will be GB no. 25 on Monday btw)
- Sophie Watts (who went off the rankings on Monday and is due to lose her remaining point on Monday week)
- Beth Askew (who is already ranked but with one of her three scores due to come off in September)
- Emily Arbuthnott (who needs 5 more points or two more counting scores to get a ranking)

Of your other guesses, Eden is 2nd Alt so will almost certainly get in, while Fran is 4th Alt and Freya 5th Alt (so they just might get in) and Jess (assuming you mean Simpson, not Ren!) withdrew yesterday.

Qualifying wild cards to:

- Alannah Griffin
- Daneika Borthwick
- Grace Dixon
- Emily Gibbens

Also, Georgia Craven (who has been at university and hasn't played an ITF since November) is on the qualifying list - she needs just one more counting score to get a ranking.
