A reasonable qualifying draw for the GB men - nearly all of them avoid seeds in QR1 and a lot of them play each other, whcich is probably a good thing in main tour qualies! Gaps are between different qualifying sections:

QR1: Ken Skupski UNR v Rémi Boutillier (FRA) WR 451 (= CH)
QR1: Jathan Malik WR 861 v Keelan Oakley WR 1309

QR1: Dan Smethurst WR 243 v Joe Salisbury WR 1613

QR1: (wc) James Marsalek WR 778 v Divij Sharan (IND) UNR (CH 438 in 2007)
QR1: Richard Gabb WR 464 v Neil Pauffley WR 527

QR1: Dan Cox WR 214 v (wc) Rhett Purcell UNR
QR1: Scott Clayton WR 1152 v Chris Guccione (AUS) WR 614 (CH 67 in 2008)
QR1: Neal Skupski UNR v (q7) Michal Przysiezny (POL) WR 112 (CH 57 in Jan)

Btw, Przysiezny has lost his last 14 matches in a row, dating back to the Aus Open!

I'm assuming Rice Willis Corrie and Golding won't be in main draw either or her due to Wimbledon qualies.

Presumably James knows he's not getting a Wimbly quali wildcard as semi-finalist in the play-offs, as he's on the entry list here ? Was the wildcard here a sort of 'second-best' present ?

Certainly seems some remarkable seed avoiding by nearly all the Brits there. That is what you call a good draw !

James didn't actually need a wild card here anyway as the the qualifying draw has 4 spare slots. Anyone who turned up would have got in.

Well, Joe Salisbury is giving Dan S a real run for his money

One set all, Dan won the first 7-5, then Joe won the next 7-6(2)

Joe seems to have a great potential, now with college experience behind him. I'm hoping he's giving pro-tennis a real go and he'll be WR 600 or so by the end of the year.

Joe S and Dan S in a real ding-dong battle - 3-3 in the third.

Neil and Richard into a third set too, after 5-7, 7-5 for the first two

Ken lost the first set 6-3 but is holding his own. Hang in there, Ken - as said, I don;t think Rémi is all that strong - keep the faith.

You're right - the win will be 'worth' more to Dan S. But isn't it good that we have no say over it ? All in the lap of the gods and all that . . .

 

Real tight game at 4-4 - Joe had BP but Dan managed to hang on. Now 5-4* to Dan S.

And Dan does wrap up the third set, 6-4, which is all for the good.

After the past two matches, though, excited by Joe's prospects.

Gabb was 3-1 up in the third but now 3-3.

Ken into a tie-break.
