This must be the first time in a good few years we havent had a DA into the womens draw of a major. Feels like a step back in time - and not in a good way :(
Hev and Jo were very close, and since the French entry list was made out, they have both improved their rankings and are DAs for Wimbledon.
Add Laura being injured into the equation, who would have been both a French Open and a Wimbledon DA if she could have played ( and of course Hev was set back by her glandular fever ) and I'd call it a blip rather than any sort of worrying step back.
Actually, I'm not sure how close they were ( their qualifying seedings here will be based on their improved rankings rather than when the main draw entry list came out ). But still, 'fairly close' and they have risen.
Nice article on the women's qualies with a picture of "the talented Heather Watson ... [who] is brimming with confidence." http://www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/news/articles/2014-05-20/201405201400600905150.html She probably won't be thrilled to have drawn Falconi as a first round opponent (my recollection is that they are friends ... and Falconi is quite gifted) ... but all the best to her and to Ms Konta.
