Well done Emily. Do hope she can make it through.

NB This is synthetic grass with sand, too, isn't it?

I'm pretty sure all these Asian 'grass' events are synthetic - only tournaments in the US (Newport), Aus (25k/smaller challenger events) and obviously GB are actual grass.

Emily's match against Tamarine should be starting shortly if anyone is still awake.

No idea whether Emily has any chance of getting a LL place.

Emily and Veselinovic have just won their qualifying doubles match, 6-3 6-1

They now will either play a Japanese WC couple, or Joss and Anna.

Sam playing with Raina, and Tara playing with Patterson

I assume the points for qualifying in doubles are the same as singles?

Hmm - qualifiers now placed and Naomi gets Emily's conqueror in R1 - could be tricky. Details edited in above.

Tanasugarn historically did best on grass, didn't she? I seem to remember some very strong runs at Wimbledon ....

Is there a rule about which rankings list should be used for deciding the seeds?

The main draw seems to have been made today after this weeks rankings were out, as I saw them on the WTA website last night, and yet they have used last weeks rankings otherwise Naomi would be the number 1 seed.
