RE: Week 18 - $75K Gifu, Japan Hard

Fingers crossed for better than last week but not feeling hugely confident having seen the draw.

Good luck girls

Jade will drop down the rankings very quickly unless she sorts out that serve. Too many big points to defend soon.

I fear sadly that Jade is overranked. I was surprised she managed to get as high as the 270s always thought her peak would be about 400. So I wouldn't say it's surprising.

Careful Jaggy - I got lambasted for saying the same thing.

The ground game is fine and she will be a better player on clay, but the serve is the big issue and I don't know if she has the coaching or funds to go and work on this straight away, but she will have difficulty winning matches regularly at 25k level until it is fixed.

...and you need even more funds to get matches fixed to your advantage ! :)

Jade is certainly the most vulnerable, just in terms of her points profile. It'll be very difficult not to have a big drop in rankings. The next few months are going to be very hard. She will have to do back to lower tournaments. However, she must have been under-ranked before i.e. when she was 400, as she didn't get to WR 285 or whatever by cheating or pure flukey wins so it must have been deserved.
But I don't remember her serve being so bad before i.e. last year.

It really wasn't a good day, was it though it looks like Emily pushed the 6th seed very close.

QR1: Anna Smith WR 445 lost to Yuka Higuchi (JPN) WR 491 (CH 396 last Aug) by 2 & 2

Disappointing but not surprising. Good effort from Em in particular, shame to see her come up just short.

Poor Em, it's sad to see her go out in qualies when just a few years ago she made the final of this tournament (albeit when it was a 50K). Here's hoping for good results in doubles for all three and good luck to Naomi, Tara and Sam in the main draw.
