RE: Wild Cards

Seeing Paulisi's list of Men's QWC possibilities, I rather fancy Joe Salisbury for the last one as he seems to have his name in the hat twice wink

I am not sure where this idea comes from that only 8 or 9 British men will be given wild cards.

Last year 5 had main draw wild cards and 8 had qualifying wild cards (6 + 2 via the wild card play off).

I've no idea where I got it from either... There was something in the AELTC rules, but I've forgotten what the ruling was.

Yes, paulisi, it is not our imagination, though I don't know where it has come from re the AELTC and / or the LTA in previous years.

And I believe that if folk look back over recent years they will see see no more than 8 British WCs ( 8 men, 8 women ) awarded PRE the Q WC play-offs to award 2 more.

In practice, AFTER the play-offs, with overall room to spare they usually award additional British WCs such as play-off semi finalists.

Yes its 8 automatic wildcards initially across MD and Q.

Theres then additional ones up for grabs from playoffs etc... and usually most if not all qualy wcs go to brits.

There's very little information coming out about WC's for Wimby from Ilkley other than a surprise one for the Men's main draw doubles.

You've got to think they know, though....

Anyway, guess we'll find out soon enough now... this evening, isn't it?

Mahut and Lleyton presumably are pretty sure bets?

Apparently it's very hush hush, AELTC keep their cards very close to the chest, I thought it would be this morning, but it might also be tomorrow morning. The players get emails shortly before the official announcement.

Yeah Phil I'm sure it's usually Tuesday they announce the first lot, but maybe they are pushing it back until tomorrow (which always seems a little unfair just because if the players only find out just before all of us, then even if you are pretty sure you are not getting anything and are preparing for the qualy play-offs, an extra day to have that knowledge confirmed and get yourself mentally ready isn't a bad thing).

The BBC site says that the 18-19 June wild card play-offs is for the MAIN draw, not the quali draw.

Presumably they've got it wrong?

Duh BBC !

As you say CD, and the Q WC play-offs were always going to be Lucy's only way of making qualifying.

I recall Andrew Castle coming out with similar tosh live in commentary ( Queen's last year ? )

That's really poor reporting.
