Elena is top seed followed by Katerina Bohmova. Anne Keothavong is at number 5, Jane O'Donaghue is at number 9 and Katie O'Brien also makes the main draw at number 13.
Wildcards for the main draw go to: Rebecca Fong [628], Melanie South [398], Sarah Coles [784] and Lindsay Cox [786].
Emily Webley-Smith and Rebecca Llewellyn are 5th and 6th respectively on the alternates list but surprisingly neither have been awarded wildcards. I suppose the LTA are assuming that both will get into the main draw courtesy of players dropping out.
Karen Paterson is at number 7 on the alternates list, Andy Murray's former girlfriend Tatiana Priachim of Germany is at number 9 and Britain's Claire Peterzan is at number 10.
Naomi Cavaday is not down on the alternates list and hasn't been given any wildcard but maybe she's just going to sign in for qualifying on the night and didn't think it was worth entering as she would be too far down the alternates list to get into the main draw via withdrawals.
Qualifying wildcards are: Natasha Khan [819], Georgie Stoop [858] [Georgie is very highly rated by fans and has had some impressive results, Julia Bone [1191], Joanna Craven [1252] and Olivia Scarfi [1384].
A bit. There is a balcony running right along the end of the four main courts, with not too many obstructions. Not really close enough to take photographs, though, even though I have a zoom lens. The other four courts - if there is a way to get to the far end two, I didn't find it, but admittedly I didn't look. The near two have the same type of view as the main four courts.
The biggest problem I found was that there were not nearly enough seats. I had one, stood up to lean on the balcony to watch a game, and luckily looked behind before sitting down again - because somebody had nicked it!
Grrrr, if the LTA catered better for spectators there might be more at the tournaments. If you go to European and South American futures events they are really well catered for, lots of seating and good views of the courts etc and they get quite a lot of people.
I think that Wrexham may be the worst as there's no spectator facilities there at all.
Did you find that most of the people there were relatives and friends of the players or part of their team. Were there many spectators who were just tennis fans. Is the tournament well-advertised at all ?
I think I was probably the only spectator there who was not attached to a player. When I rang the Tournament Office beforehand to get information, they seemed a bit surprised that anybody would want to spectate! Advertised? I doubt it, but I suppose it might have been in the Sunderland papers.
I wonder why they don't make more of an effort to publicize it, if they did, I'm sure that they'd get quite a few interested spectators and it would get more people interested in British tennis.
I've checked the local Sunderland paper and there was nothing in it at all in November even though Bogdanovic won !! A clue to the main content of the Sunderland paper, it should be renamed Sunderland FC news - there are so many pages devoted to the club.
Jamie Baker's Times articles seem to be getting him a bit more of a fan base as apparently he's getting more supporters when he plays in Britain. Hopefully that's also due to his website
