By my calculations, Joss may be just one more win away from taking out her doubles CH, which is currently WR 209 as at 09/08/10. Not bad going since all of her current 11 ( for doubles ) counters have only applied from September last year. She has nothing to defend for the next 6 months.
CH ranking at 09/08/10 = WR 209
WR at 24/02/14 = WR 243 ( 260 pts )
Approx WR at 03/03/14 = WR 216 ( 304 pts )
18 points for a SF here ( one more win ) would take her to 316 pts, currently equivalent to WR 208.
Another title here and 50 points would take her to 348 points, currently equivalent to WR 189.
As for Anna, her doubles CH coincidentally ( they weren't playing together then ) also dates back to 09/08/10, WR 119. Her current WR at 24/02/14 = WR 191 and she is also clearly on the up, with nothing to defend before June.
Assuming they continue playing together, their rankings will naturally converge in a few months, hopefully maybe getting down towards Anna's current CH ( WR 119 ).
A wee bit sad for Anna that would indicate she will give up on singles as mentioned before. Still think should could be up around the 200 mark given time.
Usually I am pretty reluctant to see players almost ( or indeed totally ) give up on singles.
In this case though, if they both remain relatively healthy ( which is clearly not a given ), I can see them each being in the top 100 in the doubles rankings next year, and it is far from clear how high they could go.
They're 40th in the race to Singapore (WTA Championships) rankings.
Considering they don't play (yet) in the biggest scoring ITF and/or WTA events, that's good.
Part of that will be a factor of the novelty of a stable, steady & continuous partnership on the ITF circuit allowing the team to aggregate points together, rather than spreading a points total amongst several different partners.
It's still pretty impressive to me though.
I'd love to see Anna also still play singles though.
Personally I think Anna could get into top 250 singles I'm disappointed if she has given up singles. Saw her at Edinburgh last year when she played well. At Roehampton her leg was heavily bandaged. It may be injury that has decided that doubles would not be so demanding. Has Joss decided not to play any more singles
Anna I'm sure will continue to play singles when possible, but when you've got something good going why not see where it takes you. Louis Cayer is very excited about Joss's prospects and can see her getting to the very top of the ladies game in doubles.
I was just using the rankings on the drawsheet. I certainly can't be bothered to look up this weeks individual rankings and then calculate them together.
