Terrific win for the boys. I feared that Nieminen & ERV might be a bit of a banana skin! Clearly I underestimated "our" boys' resilience, but so glad I did! I'd actually settled down to keep track of the score, but dozed off...
Surely the boys must have a ghost of a chance of bagging the title now? OK, "Deliciano" & "the Beast of Belarus" will be no pushovers, given that they dumped out the top seeds, Kubot & Lindstedt, by 3 &4 in their QF, but they are the only seeded pair left in the draw, Booty & Klaasen (4) having been outgunned by Kevin Anderson & Matt Ebden by 6-7(5) 6-3 [11-13] & the pair I always regard as dangerous "floaters", Santiago González & Scott Lipsky, by 6-1 3-6 [8-10] by the Mexican wild cards, César Ramírez & Miguel Angel Reyes (González & Lipsky had themselves accounted for the second seeds, JJR & Tecau, in the first round).
While I'd like to be hopeful (and will be so), I regard seedings in doubles as generally of limited utility; they seem to give more benefit than should be the case to established pairings and don't take into account the strength of the singles players (like Anderson on the other side of the draw) making the occasional foray into doubles. Add to that the fact that Mirnyi is, to me, like Nestor ... you can put him together with almost anyone and the pairing will be a threat ... and I'm hopeful without being overconfident.
