Very good financially with over $13K for a first round loss and a draw that is very good for an ATP 500. Gabashvili's year so far.
Doha: Lost to Hernych first round in qualifying
Sydney: Lost to Kavcic first round in qualifying
Aus Open: Beat Stakhovsky and Verdasco then lost to Federer
Montpellier: Lost to Brown in R1
Memphis: Lost to Kukuskin in R1
DelRay Beach: Beat Ebdon and Nishikori (by Ret) and then lost to Cilic
If James could win he would also have a decent second round. The seed he would potentially face is Youzhny who is in terrible form at the moment and seem to be carrying a slight injury. He plays Przysiezny in R1.
However James hasn't beaten a top 100 player outside of Davis Cup since Wimbledon 2012 (Andujar).
Meanwhile, Jonny M's teamed up with Tursunov again. Let's hope they have more luck actually playing a match than they did in Rotterdam. They certainly appear to have a kinder draw, in the first round at any rate!
R1: Jonny Marray & Dmitry Tursunov (RUS) CR 154 (46+108) vs Roberto Bautista & Igor Sijsling (ESP/NED) CR 322 (216+106)
Just to explain the disbelief, Nestor & Zimonjic are the top seeds & play a pair of local WCs in the first round & Jonny & Dmitry are in the top quarter of the draw...
Hasn't James been training with Andy this week? Anyway, have no idea how he got the wild card, its worth a small fortune so lucky him, I think he's due a decent points score so maybe this week? James usually seems to have 3 to 4 good points scores in his best 18 no-where near enough to back it up.
I was think about this wild card, and also Kyle getting ones at Chennai and Marseille, and it occurred to me that some tournament directors might think that such actions will be viewed favourable by the new Executive Chairman and President of the LTA.
Or it might be a question of potential audiences? Big expat UK (Ward) and Indian (Devvarman) communities in Dubai. And while Tunisians may not be so numerous, Mr Jaziri is the highest-ranked ATP player from the Middle East and North Africa.

That's the best theory I've seen about the WCs here so far.
