Week 8 - ATP 500 Series: Clarohdtv Rio Open, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (red clay) - doubles

A kind draw? wink  Let's hope so!

R1:  qualifier vs (4) Treat Huey (PHI) & Dominic Inglot CR 49 (21+28)

As the ATP gives no details of the qualifying draw (no inkling on MTF thus far, either hmm ), impossible to say...

The final qualifying round is tomorrow. It is Delbonis and Mayer (Leo, not Flo) v Gimeno-Traver and Montanes

I doubt one can have much complaint about meeting the winner of that in R1 of an ATP 500 :)

Nice to see Dom playing clay. DC in mind?

I am guessing that Dom stayed state-side after the US tie and it might be that he and Treat have decided that playing an ATP 500 on clay beats playing a 250 in Florida but the Davis Cup tie in Italy may well be a factor in his thinking. However the doubles is an absolute must win for us in that tie so I am not sure that Dom has must chance of getting the nod unless Andy has a long match on Day 1.

What was the cause of the Dom and Treat team? Obviously it's brought them stability and success, but it just seems to be an odd pairing that must have an interesting reason.

He tweeted someone the other day saying he had prepared in England and there is an LTA interview with him about the USA tie (presumably at the NTC) so if he did stay it wasn't for the whole time.

They both went to the same university in America, University of Virginia.

Well, as I suggested beforehand, I don't think we can really blame the draw for this one. Rather disapointing.
