Caroline Woz has just relieved Mr Hogstedt of his duties after just a month or 2 (well presumably her dad decided he was her coach after all), so surely this would be a golden opportunity for Laura's team to step in and hire a proven star coach. Her current situation (coaching set-up) seems, from the outside in, to be a halfway house and unlikely to give her the platform to step change. Let's be frank, she is just one of a group of players who can call on the advice of a head coach, but that coach has decided to give priority to Genie Bouchard. If Laura has lowered her goals, perhaps that makes sense, but if that is the case, someone ought to alert the media.....I rather suspect none of her top coaching targets could be secured pre-season as planned (for whatever reason), and this was a pragmatic short to medium term solution.
I do think someone with star quality and proven success (a bit like Lendl with Andy) would be best placed to force Laura to put in the specific training she needs to address her obvious issues, and therefore allow her many strengths to prosper. I'm not saying time is running out, (clearly that would be stupid) but the "basics" need to become second nature and a training and fitness regime fully ingrained, and all of this takes time......months and even years to get to world class levels.......
