L32: (4) Oli Golding WR 400 v André Gaspar Murta (POR) WR 585 (CH 571 in Nov)
L32: Matt Short WR 812 v Frederico Gil (POR) WR 826 (CH 62 in 2011)

The winners meet in R2.

Horrible draw - this is Gil's first match back since retiring in May - a retirement that has turned out to be temporary.

Edit: Just been trying to find out a bit more - it turns out that the 'retirement' was always intended to be temporary so that he could seek treatment for psychological problems - this article covers it best (but is in Portuguese) http://www.abola.pt/nnh/ver.aspx?id=435900

Btw, Gil's return might explain why there are indications that there may be stream for this tournament (we'll find out for sure tomorrow) - if so, both Brits are on the main court tomorrow so we might get to see them in action.

Strange that they're not playing with each other?

Matt is pretty much based in Spain - I'm sure he knows all the Spanish players far better than he knows Oli

Matt and Oli are both scheduled to be on the live stream at e-tennis.tv today. It will depend on the weather though - the first match is only just about to start having been delayed by rain (Matt is on 2nd and Oli 4th) and it sounds like a howling gale is blowing at the moment!

Short - Gil is indeed on the link above, currently 3-3 first set. Wind still blowing hard! First time I will have seen Matt play so will be interesting.

Matt kept the 1st set remarkably close but ended up losing it 7-5 and is a break down in the 2nd

Matt goes down 5 & 3. Not bad really (from the little I saw, they were both playing reasonably well) and should give Oli plenty of hope against Gil if he gets past Gaspar Murta later today.
