Week 4 - Great Britain F2 ($10,000) - Sunderland (Hard)

Main Draw DAs here for Cox, Corrie, Rice, Smethurst, Hewitt, Gabb, Farquharson, Milton, Pauffley and Marsalek. Ward-Hibbert may also have got in if not probably has a wild card.

Qualifying Draw is very strong with 29 ranked players.

What a shame that we have declared civil war in our GB futures events -

I understand why it's happening it's the prohibitive cost of foreign travel

& accomodation . We badly need to add to our rather frugal calender of GB challengers !

I certainly agree about the lack of GB challengers.

Especially with the stage that many more of our players are at ( looking to move on from futures to make a mark in challengers ), I find this year's very limited program pretty indefensible.

Surely there were places for a number of futures to lead up to a challenger rather than just repeated strings of futures.

No signs of Jonny O'Mara on the qualies list. I really hope that means a WC and not still a problem with the ankle he hurt last week.

Strong qualifying draw - ranked 700 in qualifying.

WC's look like JWH, George Coupland, George Morgan, Jonny O'Mara(if fit)

need organised groups of 2-4 GB players to different futures rather than all fighting for the same pot of points at a GB futures eg Sunderland . eg The guys that have not got a ranking yet going to seriously struggle in  Sunderland qualifying

I guess if a large amount of GB players abandoned their home futures ( rather than populated them in a way that is not too atypical for home future players ), it would make them overall much weaker draws and hence help lower ranked GB players get points.

But, as I have said elsewhere, I think it is very debatable that if most GB players dispersed to other countries they would overall end up with any more points. I think quite probably they would win less.

It may look like "oh, they are taking points off each other", but there is a positive "home effect" in futures ( which our players would be against in other countries ) and I think there were pretty strong indicators that more GB stocked futures last year to an extent HELPED IMPROVE general GB rankings.

Peniston, Tom Allen, Mason Recci and Jhun have won their first round matches (Bruce Strachan getting knocked out in two sets after doing so well last week)

I don't see Coxy doing too well in these Futures.

(Feel free to bump this post and laugh at me. )

Out of interest why not ? Dan had a good record in futures last year, latterly stepped up not too badly to challengers and acquited himself OK at Aussie Open qualifying. Plus I presume he has now been back in the UK for quite some time.

Anyway, we shall see...

Of the Brits, Oakley, Porter, Jones, Banasik, Crawford and Skinner have also won their first rounds (others not all finished yet)

In QR2, Roy (FRA), Kevin G (Ned) and Harry Meehan have already won their second round matches.

1 guaranteed GB qualifier as Rob Carter will play Clay Crawford.

Rather a lot of 'pesky foreigners' in the other matches, with Harry M. v Kevin G, Adam TB v Glancy, and Myles Orton v Matt Roy.

Pleased to see Jack Carpenter is back playing but a bit confused as to why he is listed as a WC. He has been on the Entry List since it was first published and clearly had no problem getting in on ranking (he is seeded 5), so why the WC.

Harry Skinner put out WR 1231 CH 717 (Nov 2011) 3-6 6-1 6-4 and will now play Bloomers in the FQR (so another GB qualifier, and well done him)
