RE: Remarkable non-GB performances

As Katie Swan's friend and partner, well done to Cici Bellis, only 15, and into the US Open Main Draw:

Not an amazing tennis performance, as such, but a very brave and opoen interview from Mardy Fish as he recounts his battle with anxiety disorder

Thank you for posting that, CD. It is a good interview - well done to him for giving it.

It is such a difficult disorder to have and is often an overlooked mental illness. Respect to Mardy for that and hopefully helping to raise the profile.

Wasn't sure where best to put this, but here seems like as good a place as any. There is a really good article on the BBC website about James McGee and his qualification for MD in the US Open.

Wow. I thought he had a chance here but that scoreline is pretty amazing.

When I first saw it, I read it as a routine win by Rosol.

What an amazing self-earned fillip to your career. Shades of Kyrgios at Wimbledon.

Coric - Amazing.

Bellis (Katie Swan's friend and playing partner) has just taken the first set 6-1 off Cibulkova too (although I guess Dominka isn't finished yet . . )

And a little mention too for Estrella Burgos who, at age 34, is the oldest person to make their debut at a Grand Slam - and has won ! And the first Dominican player (born and bred Dominican too). And was barely playing professional tennis for a chunk of his twenties but was just working as a coach. Makes you smile.

And has just handed Domi Cibulkova [12] - WR 13, Australian Open finalist this year - a bread-stick in the first set!

Edit: When you answer a call whilst composing a post and someone else says the same thing above you in the meantime smile

To be fair Rosol had just won Winston Salem and had very little recoup. Not that this takes anything away from Coric but it maybe aids Rosol's cause.

Now THAT is a superb effort! There really are some outstanding girls and boys in the 15-18 year old age group at the moment. Exciting times ahead

Very good from Coric, it will be interesting to see how he follows up.

Yes, I'd seen Rosol won the title last week and certainly not always, but invariably, such players seem to give poor performances in immediately following Slams. I am sure I have not been the only one caught out by the demise of "in form" players in Slam prediction contests.
