Remarkable non-GB performances

Rapt for Ash. I've been following her partly in her first career, but much more in her second. I think she's great for the game too - game style and personality.

I guess this is as good a place as any to put this but there is a wonderful and somewhat heartbreaking article in The Guardian on Petra Kvitova.

Darren Cahill
@darren_cahill

The ranking rise of Ash Barty after restarting her career.

May 2016 - unranked

Dec 2016 - 272

Dec 2017 - 17

Dec 2018 - 15

June 24, 2019 - No.1

A stunning rise to the top in just 3 years. Well done @ashbar96 @CTyzzer and your entire team

Just a belated shout for feliciano Lopez, not many players win an atp500 singles and doubles aged 37. In fact who was the last person to win both titles at an atp500 or above in the same tournament?

I wasnt sure where to put this - with the US Open nearly on us, this story on the BBC website is both touching and informative and makes us realise how terrible times used to be (and how we need to be careful not to repeat some of the mistakes we made 70 or more years ago).

I dont remember Althea Gibson as a player but do recall her name and achievements and had no idea of the hardships she had gone through to both get there initially but also to live a decent life after tennis

Not sure it is a remarkable performance but it is certainly a remarkable bit of news

I've often commented on tennis abstract elo forecasting system.

Interesting analysis and andreescu is there new number one.

And look out for berretini in the official top 10 very soon

Can we talk for a second about...Filip Polasek. Out injured from November 2013 until June 2018. Doesn't play his first ATP main tour event until June this year where he teamed up with his current partner Ivan Dodig and somehow manages to qualify for the ATP Tour Finals. From futures to the O2 in 18 months. Unreal.

That is such a good story, thanks for posting that. I will be supporting them at the O2 alongside Joe and Rajeev I think!

And he is ranked top 10 individually as well. Amazing

I see he and Dodig have beaten Jamie and Neal 3 times on this run, and Joe and Rajeev once as well.
