Week 3 - USA F2 ($10,000) - Sunrise, FL (clay)

Kyle should be seeded in the main draw here and Alex Ward may well be seeded too, but first there is a mammoth 4-day qualifying competition to be played:

QR1: Stefan Cooper UNR v Dennis Uspensky (USA) WR 1618 (CH 1519 in Oct; junior WR 73)

Edited to amend title.

RE: Week 3 - USA F1 ($10,000) - Sunrise, FL (clay)

Of course 12 months ago it was Kyle (and the other teenage Brits) taking part in the qualifying.

Hate to be fussy, but this should read "USA F2" in the title. F1 is being played in Plantation this week.

On a positive note, this time last year, Kyle was trying to battle through these massive futures draws. This year he is seeded in the MD - possibly 4th if there are no WC ringers sneaking in at the last minute.

Thanks, both. I hadn't noticed Plantation (no Brits in it!) so I just assumed it must be the first US Futures event of the year. The weird thing is, I realised that was wrong a few minutes later and I remember changing it somewhere, but I can't think where I would have changed it if it wasn't here ... oh well, it was late, I probably did edit then forgot to press Send on the change or something! no

L32: (7) Alex Ward WR 409 v David Vega Hernández (ESP) WR 498 (CH 495 in Dec)
L32: (4) Kyle Edmund WR 372 v Evan King (USA) WR 590 (= CH)

The bad news: Both Brits are in the same (3rd) quarter.

The good news: Apart from their R1 opponents and Daniel Nguyen WR 527 (CH 418 in May), the other players in that quarter will all be qualifiers. Nguyen beat Alex in Yokohama in November but is closer to Kyle than to Alex in this draw.

There seems to be a lot of chat about Kyle being selected as our number 2 singles player for the DC, so I'm assuming Andy was impressed with what he saw during the offseason, so we may see some impressive performances from Kyle this week.

Alex a little rusty? Down a double break 1-4* in the first set.

Edit: Lost the first set 1-6 but has broken in the first game of the second. *1-0

I hope you are right but let's not count chickens. There are always strange results at the start of the season when players are rusty so one match at a time will do me.
