Glad to see Tara sneaking in there at the end, I hope she can make the most of it and win a match or three Seriously though, based entirely on rankings that doesn't look like the worst set of draws in round 1 - does anyone more knowledgeable about the women's game want to disillusion me on that?

Heather's draw against an Aussie also means she is on the main court and so should be streamed. Potential to renew her rivalry with Foretz Gacon in round 2 as well.
I remember watching Tara's previous meeting with Sema at Wimbledon qualies 18 months ago. Tara led a set and 5-1 or 5-2 and looked like she would win easily but just couldn't get over the finishing line. As she started coming back I remember Sema being incredibly irritating and shouting "come on" 3 times after every single point she won, so much so that I don't think I stayed for the final set as she was getting on my nerves so much.
Personal thoughts :
JoKo: very tricky draw for a number 3 seed, Min is up and coming and the USA girls are on fire, unless Jo is in top/near to top form, this could be a loss. Potential 2nd round opponent Ishizu has started the season on fire and will provide a huge test.
Hev: dream draw, will be shocked if she doesn't qualify.
Tara : nice 1st round draw, after that will be difficult.
Jo manages to attract a gang of dangerous lurkers. I've always thought of Min as an anomaly who prefers clay to hard, but she seems to have played a lot more on hard over the last few months which may be an intentional effort to improve her on the surface. I've only watched Min play briefly in the US hardcourt season, I remember being impressed by her when she beat Mayo Hibi who was on a bit of a roll - she has a play style not too dissimilar to Jo. Second round against Ishizu would be very tough too - with the potential of playing Konjuh in the FQR - not a nice mix of upcoming and in form players.
I definitely back Heather to qualify with her draw. She has been playing really well - dont expect Rodionova to trouble her and I think Gacon will be surprisingly comfortable since she has deteriorated of late while Heather's game has become slightly more offensive. FQR should be Zheng, who will be tough but I think Heathers fitness in the Aussie heat will give her the edge.
No idea what to expect from Tara - ideally she will be playing freely and will just go for it - hopefully Tara will start realising her potential now everything is falling into place for her (GS qualies and FC announcement).
The bookies give the Brits the following chances of winning tonight:
Hev 83%
JoKo 54%
Tara 50%
I was amazed they thought JoKo's match to be so close to 50/50, though I agree that you don't expect that tough a QR1 match when you're the no. 3 seed.

Some Aussie idiot on the livestream, just predicted that Hev's match was a 50/50 call and would likely go to 3 sets. Looking forward to Hev eating that guy's words !!
