Week 50 - ITF ($10K) - Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt Hard

Main draw is now out

Katy is seed 7 and has drawn Fafaliou with a potential meeting with the top seed in the QF

Harriet has Solopaeva, a Russian Q with the uneviable task of facing last week's winner Cadar in rd 2

Katy and Harriet are playing doubles together again and have drawn Armitano and Klaric.

All in all pretty good first round draws.

How did she get a WC? Hope it's not via the LTA. The previous results don't justify it. I didn't look for her as i assumed she had not signed in for qualis.

I'm sure it's got nothing to do with the LTA, but she got a main draw wild card here in August too ... and a main draw wild card in Mallorca in February ... presumably there's some vaguely interesting story there.

Harriet is 2-0 up in her match.

Katy has just started and it's on livestream via e-tennis.

Katy playing very well - clean and controlled. 6-1 in about 20 mins

Harriet probably playing equally well (no stream) but the score is 6-0 to her so that speaks for itself !

At 4-4 in a far tighter second set (well, any set, after, 6-0 has to be tighter!), Harriet suddenly broke and is now serving for the match !

Great job, Harriet - winning 6-0 6-4

this is Harriet's third 'proper' point - getting a point for managing to secure a wild-card into a 25k MD doesn't really count - so well done to her. Next up is ET Cadar which will almost certainly be a large step too far but who knows . . .

A nice win for Harriet - unfortunately she gets last week's champion, 4th seed Elena-Teodora Cadar (ROU) WR 541 (=CH), in R2

Well, Elizabeth Thomas is the biggest outsider I've seen for a while on Bet365 (and has served 5 doubles faults in one and a half games) but who knows ? Come on, Ms. Thomas - the sun is shining on the GB camp in Egypt today . . .

4-4* now (despite 8 dfs from Elizabeth), not bad at all

Well, Elizabeth (our own ET ?) served for the set at 6-5 but, not surprisingly, got broken (3 breaks a piece) and so into a tie-break
