RE: European League Club Tennis

Aljaz played for TCBB at number one today and:

Aljaz def. Michael Berrer 7-6 6-2

He lost his doubles, playing with Golubev, but the team won 4-2

Playing for TCBB at number one, Aljaz again won his singles, beating Uladzimir Ignatik 7-6 6-2

Partnering Golubev again, he also won his doubles this time, and the team won 6-0

(Golubev, Axel Michon and Maxime Hamou were the other three singles players in Bedene's team today)

French league played yesterday:

For TCBB, Aljaz Bedene WR 45 def. Martin Klizan WR 43 (CH 24) 6-4 3-6 6-3

Good result!

In the doubles, Ali and Golubev lost to Jaziri and Joss Ouanna

The match was drawn 3-3

(NB For the Jarkko Niemenem fans, he's still playing team tennis - lost his singles, won his doubles yesterday)

In the women, none of ours have played the first couple of matches but Tara Moore showed up last weekend and played (result was late to be posted).

She won her singles, beating Fiona Gervais, 6-2 7-6

And, teaming up with Conny Perrin as normal, won the doubles too, in a MTB.

The team drew 3-3 (the team had lost their first two matches so nice to get a draw - and got a win yesterday but only coz the other team has withdrawn and defaulted all their matches)

Aljaz didn't play today. But his team won 4-2

They therefore finish second in the A pool of the 1iere division.

as such, they should qualify for the play-offs on Saturday Dec. 5th, playing the winners of Pool B, with the winners of A playing the runners-up of B. And the two winners playing the final on Sunday.

(James McGee also turned up, playing for Eaubonne, but he lost his two matches, and the team has finished bottom and will be relegated next season).

It was semi-final day today in the top elite division of team tennis in France.

In the Premiere division, Bedene's team, TCBB, won 4-2 against Quimperle

Aljaz def. Vincent Millot 6-4 6-4, but lost his doubles - at one set all - by abandon.

My guess is that is was neither him not his partner who was injured but that the other doubles finished just before, (which TCBB won) and the team had therefore won and everyone went mad and there was no need to finish off Aljaz's doubles.

Tomorrow they play Villa Primrose in the final. Villa Primrose (one of the Bordeaux teams) have Chardy and Stakhovsky and Texeira as their top three players. They beat the Paris team of Benneteau, Bourgue and Lamasine today

CD thanks for keeping us updated, I am shocked at the quality of players engaged at the highest level. You can see what a fantastic resource the French have to develope their young players. The thought of Quimperle being a major sporting force is amazing what next Guingamp playing PSG! The concept that municipalities buy into and take pride in local sport is very alien to us in the UK

I might well have been wrong yesterday, about the reason the doubles didn't get finished, as Aljaz didn't play today, which is extremely unusual (i,e, he was over there, whatever, and everyone wants to play the final after winning the semi).

So I now fear he might be injured......

And the net effect was that his team lost, 2-4, against the Bordeaux lot. With Chardy, Stakhovsky and Jouan winning their singles, Axel Michon winning his for TCBB, and the doubles being split one each.

Do hope he's OK.....

Just posted this as a specific reply in another thread and thought it should go here too, as it's a more logical place if anyone is trying to find it some time later. (It's individual events , not team tennis, but all the same)

here is the site that lists all the money tournaments in France:

www.ei.applipub-fft.fr/eipublic/competitionRecherche.do

The top box is for tournament (stand-alone tournament, open to anyone) and championship (county championships, close entry, etc)

It lists all, but you can use the age category (bottom right) to get rid of juniors and veterans, if you want.

It's done by league, which is effectively by region.

Nearly all have cash prize money (apart from the juniors which will have gift vouchers or whatever).

As you can see, there are a lot !

I don't really follow German league tennis but I take it from this that Marcus is involved:

Mirabelle's team is in a lower league (the pre-nationals, i.e. at regional level).

It is fair to say that she is therefore cruising through her team matches, with scores in the last few weeks of: 6-0 6-0, 6-0 6-0 and 6-1 6-0 (shame about that one game - very sloppy )

At her club, there is also:

Chelsea Samways (born 1998) - won her two team matches on the 6th and 13th of March (has been playing ITF juniors since then, I think). Played a couple of other events this year too.

Natasha Hood (born 1996) - 4 wins, one defeat in the team matches

Alexandra Yeardley (born 1999) - who's won her five team matches, too, these past 6 weeks, as well as other matches (overall this year, team and money tournaments, she's 10 victories, 11 defeats).

Huge thanks for that, The O.

Fascinating to see all the matches - and lovely to see 'old' and 'retired' names still out there and (presumably) enjoying their tennis.

My post looks pretty feeble in comparison :(

Mirabelle's team won the semi-final of their pre-National regional play-off.

Mirabelle won 0&0. And her doubles. Natasha Hood lost.

The new teams are out for this season.

Just as a reminder of the structure:

French Men's Team Tennis (National Level):

D1 - 12 teams
D1A - 12 teams

This 'elite' lot played in Nov/Dec and is finished (Bedene was our only representative)

May/June season:

D1B - 12 teams
D2 - 48 teams
D3 - 96 teams
D4 - 96 teams

Most teams list 10 players.

There is then Pre-Nat team tennis just below which is regional level. And regional league below that, and then county/department below that.

British Representation (for D1B - D4), all at different teams unless mentioned:

D1B

Jamie Whiteford, NEW, playing joint number 2, with three others (i.e. four are on the same ranking, behind their top guy)

D2

All at St. Malo
Scott Clayton (number 1)
Stuart Parker
Patrick Ogier - NEW

Jamie Feaver

Matt Short

Farris - interesting (listed as NEW, but he was definitely on my list for last year so maybe the registration didn't go through)

Oliver Hudson + Adam TB, together at Mondeville, as last year.

D3

Maniel Bains

Marcus Willis and Jack Carpenter, both down at Capdenac

George Coupland

Evan Hoyt NEW at Cannes

James Allemby

Dan Cox

James Sylvester

D4

Damon Roberts

Josh G

Andy Bettles

Tom Farqh

Keelan Oakley

* This is based just on the teamlists registered (it doesn't necessarily mean they'll play)

Good luck in particular to the new ones, Jamie and Evan (and maybe Farris), and Patrick O.

The league starts on May 1st.

And with all the layers below

British players listed at various teams in the divisions are:

D1B - no one

D2

Sophia Rosney (but listed joint 7th on the team sheet)

Claudette Gilhepsie plays number 4

Amy Sargeant

Emily WS

D3 -

Lucy Brown

D4

Tara and Lisa at Stade Clermontois (this is effectively the second team, Tara played one match for the first team last winter. Conny's here too.....).

Good luck, Jess !
