RE: European League Club Tennis

Oh, actually looking back it seems to have been to play in a tournament at the club, not the league matches. Sorry, my confusion.

OK, I'll go and look that up

It used to be really easy to check things like this because you could look up any player's playing history.

But the FFT has recently decided that, because of 'privacy' (or whatever), to get rid of access for this - so you can look up an event (although even that has become really difficult) but you have to know that your player is playing in that event in the first place.

OK, I've found the event:

44ème Open de Valenciennes CNGT

Which means it's part of the Grand Circuit (which is a national circuit that links up all the very biggest money tournaments - I think there's about 40 of them or so - to give special points for an end-of-year thing)

And from the tiny poster, I think the winner of the women's event gets EUR 1600

But, from what I can tell, they haven't put up the very final drawsheet

All these events are progressive - so me and you could enter them - anyone from beginner upwards. Which is why the dates are so wide - it started back at the beginning of March and the final is this weekend.

It's the one of the many things that is so dreadfully lacking in GB events.

Anyway, I've found 6 drawsheets, covering each progression, up to the -15 (about ITF level), but the very final one (for numbered players) isn't up yet (and Emily is still a numbered played in French domestic rankings)

There will very probably be doubles too - with money prizes - but there are no points for that so the drawsheets don't get posted.

Just to add, the total prize money for the women in Emily W-S's club CNGT event is EUR 6,480

Breakdown:

1600 E - winner
1000 - finalist
640 - semi-finalists
330 - quarter-finalists
160 - last 16

tsbvalenciennes.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/44emeopenvalenciennes-mise-en-page-1-1755x2482-1-1448x2048.jpg

GB players - this is open for anyone to enter - it only costs 17 euros to enter

ANd I underestimated, there were 33 events between Sept and April (the winter circuit)

And about 50 events coming up in the summer circuit

(and there are literally hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of other money events that are not part of the CNGT)

The French league kicked off last week.

The only GB interest I can see was Dan and Marcus:

Day 1

Div 2: Dan Cox won in a third-set TB, playing as number one, against Gilles Bailly

Dan's team won 4-2

Div 3: Marcus Willis, playing number 2, def. James O'Sullivan in two sets

He also won his doubles and the team won 6-0

Day 2

Div 2: Dan Cox got hammered by Adrien Puget, losing 1 & 0

He won his doubles though

The team lost 2-4

Marcus Willis said in his post-dubs match interview in Notts that he was on his way to Stanstead to go and play team tennis

But it looks like he didn't make it. He's not on his team's teamsheet for today (they drew 3-3)

Div 4: Wonderful to see Josh Goodall out playing

But not such good news after that

He won the first set 6-1, was 1-5 down in the second and had to retire... :(

Hey CD - does the French League system have a website of some sort? I tried googling and found a lot about how to play league club tennis in various regions or represent my club, which is cool, but nothing about the pro league system and results etc!!

The FFT used to have a super results site - really nice and reliable

THey've now changed it twice, and God knows what cost, and it's pretty flaky (no surprise there - new version = all flash - but dead flaky = what a bargain)

If you have real problems today, try on Wednesday, say - it always is bad at the weekend/Monday when everyone's looking at it

Later on he posted on his socials that he missed his flight by 4 minutes. Was still in his match kit.
Does he still play for the team he has played for for many years? I think they are down south somewhere but cant remember the name, starts with a C maybe?

Div 2: Dan Cox won his singles easily, and his doubles, and the team won 5-1

Div 3: Marcus Willis lost his singles, and doubles, and the team lost 0-6

Div 4: Neil Pauffley won his singles in three sets - great to see you, Neil !

Lost in dubs though and team drew 3-3

Josh Goodall won his singles and doubles, and team won 5-1

Emily WS didn't turn out this weekend. But quasi-Brit, Kat Stresnkova, was there - and won both her singles and dubs for the team)
