2013 Master'U BNP Paribas

Just catching up on this event which took place in Aix-en-Provence, France over the weekend.  8 countries involved (invitation only I think), 6 player teams, with each tie the best of 7 matches. Each player must be a student at Uni and last year Jarmere Jenkins lead USA to victory and since graduating has raced into the ATP top 400.

All of our team are recognisable names so thought I may as well post the results.  Also included Career High rankings of opponents rather than current WR since I'm guessing most of the players will be studying full-time rather than playing on the tour every week.

Quarter Finals - Great Britain beat Germany 4-3

Georgia Craven (Warwick) lost to Rosalie Willig (CH 1110) by 4-6 4-6
Steph Cornish (Bath) beat Anna-Benita Fuchs 7-6 6-3

Mark Whitehouse (Imperial) lost to Michel Dornbusch (CH 586) by 6-3 3-6 2-6
Scott Duncan (Stirling) lost to Jan Greve (CH 1105) by 5-7 2-6

Steph Cornish / Alex Walker (Bath) beat Alina Wessel / Willig by 3-6 6-3 10-4
Mark Whitehouse / Darren Walsh (SMU, USA) beat Dornbusch / Marko Trupkovic by 6-1 3-6 12-10

Darren Walsh / Alex Walker beat Greve / Fuchs by 6-2 6-3

Semi Finals - Great Britain lost to Russia 4-3

Georgia Craven lost to Anna Danilina (CH 334) by 1-6 3-6
Steph Cornish lost to Gulia Valetova (CH 586) by 2-6 6-2 3-6

Mark Whitehouse beat Anton Galkin (CH 863) by 7-6 6-1
Scott Duncan lost to Evgeny Elistratov (CH 1034) by 2-6 6-0 3-6

Steph Cornish / Alex Walker lost to Danilina / Valetova by 3-6 4-6
Mark Whitehouse / Darren Walsh beat Elistratov / Viktor Kozin by '8-7(6)'

Darren Walsh / Alex Walker beat Kozin / Gulia Samuseva by '8-4'

3rd/4th Playoff - Great Britain beat France 4-2

Georgia Craven beat Anais Van Cauter by 6-0 6-4
Alex Walker beat Natalie Piquion (CH 177 in 2010) by 6-3 6-1

Mark Whitehouse lost to Gregoire Jacq (CH 888) by 4-6 3-6
Scott Duncan lost to Antoine Hoang (CH 1293) by 6-3 2-6 3-6

Steph Cornish / Alex Walker beat Van Cauter / Pauline Lollia by 6-2 6-0
Mark Whitehouse / Darren Walsh beat Hoang / Jacq by 7-6 6-1

So looks like having a full time doubles specialist helped since Darren Walsh won 5 out of 5 matches, although I'm not sure how he qualified for the team in the first place since I'm pretty sure he's graduated by now.  USA won easily again, with the latest batch of college prospects winning 11 out of 12 singles matches.

No worries, I came across this video which drew my attention to it in the first place.

www.youtube.com/watch

Don't suppose you recognise any of the stars from your time in France? (Other than 'Arnaud' and 'Cedric' obviously!)

Cheers, I wasn't aware of this event.

Pavlyuchenkova and Vesnina didn't want to play, I guess.

Like Josh, I was somewhat confused by Mr Walsh's entry (which, given his record in the tournament was fairly crucial). With thanks to the might of Google, it looks as if this may prove the answer: www.smu.edu/Lyle/Undergrad/ProspectiveStudents/APES/Lyle%20Alumni/darrenwalsh. Very handy-sounding programme.
