RE: Daniel Smethurst: Ranked 17th in the world by the ATP!

I realised you weren't on there, so just tweeted:

"Salmon (forum) spots 4 Brits in the ATP singles top 100, including @dansmethurst90 at 17 .. in 2014's Race, that is: bit.ly/I8bUTE"

It's the Race to next year's World Tour Finals, so starts once the previous year's Race closes. I thought he must be high up on it and checked for it a few times earlier in the week but they didn't seem to be updating it so I thought maybe they wouldn't do the first update until after the first main tour event in 2014 and gave up looking. It's a good thing Salmon kept checking for a bit longer!

LTA are going to be buzzing. Four Brits in the Top 100 Singles - and none of them called Murray.

I guess the Race includes all tournaments in the year before the WTF. I'm fairly sure that at one point of time, Challengers were not a part of the Race.

I was looking next year's calendar on Wikipedia and couldn't believe it when I saw Volandri at the top of the rankings!

Someone let Dan know on Twitter, please! Of course, he may have realised this already, but just to be sure...

Just one more win last week and Dan would have been ranked 10th equal, two more wins and he would have been 4th !

Call me a pessimist, but I'm thinking he might not quite hold on to that position..

Dan has dropped a bit, inevitably (with another week's worth of tournaments going on) but there are now 6 Brits in the Race top 100

With the Challengers now over for the year, a couple more big weeks from Oli (in Qatar) could just about see him into the top 10 before the main tour events restart ...

Just to mention that I see that Dan 'Smethers' has joined Team Bath, a very good tennis set-up and somewhere that will really benefit from having him on board.

(maybe someone could put this in the individual player thread section?)

Maybe someone now has

And maybe being classified as a player and a reminder of such ATP heights might spur Dan to give it another go ( though maybe I should edit the title ).

Nice to see Dan Smethurst looking so happy in his new role at Bath, in some pretty good tennis company, as per the photo they put up a few hours ago:

Not sure how long they are down in La Manga but I am thinking of dropping in on Sunday to say Hi.  Haven't seen Dan since Wimbledon 2016 when we sat with Milts and watched Alex Ward play Goffin on Court 3.  Would be be good to catch up with him.  And if Leon and Louis are there too, it will really make it a good day out for me.

Bob ........ in search of a scoop.
