Ohh, Brydan. I thought that he had turned a corner with his Traralgon performance, but it's the same thing all over again.
On an unrelated note... Alejandro González has made it to the top 100 without ever winning a Tour/Masters/Slam match, and that can't be too common, I guess.

I thought Kittipong (who upset Brydan last week) might be a tricky QR1 opponent for Richard ... and he was! But having come through an epic 13-11 tiebreak in the 1st set, the 2nd was a bit more clear-cut:
QR1: (q1) Brydan Klein WR 343 beat (wc) Renta Tokuda (JPN) UNR (15yo junior WR 389) by 3 & 3
QR1: (q3) Richard Gabb WR 432 beat Kittipong Wachiramanowong (THA) WR 834 (CH 457 in 2010)
QR2: (q1) Brydan Klein WR 343 v Takashi Saito (JPN) WR 794 (CH 788 in Oct)
QR2: (q3) Richard Gabb WR 432 v Yuuya Kibi (JPN) WR 808 (CH 728 in Jul)
These matches will be played later this morning.
Saito is a top 100 junior and beat a top 50 junior, Onishi, in QR1.
27-year-old Kibi's ranking is based on relatively few events because he hasn't played outside Japan in the last 12 months, so he might be a bit stronger than his ranking implies.

L32: (6) James Ward WR 172 v Kimmer Coppejans (BEL) WR 259 (CH 258 in Oct)
L32: Alex Ward WR 338 v Sam Groth (AUS) WR 203 (CH 189 in Mar) - H2H 0-1, Nottingham Ch 2007, Groth won a close one 7-5 6-7(4) 6-4
So the Groth is flying (about 10,000 km) from Champaign to Toyota after playing in Saturday's singles Final ... let's hope he's knackered! To add insult to injury, the winner is likely to play the 2nd seed in R2.
A tricky draw for James too against a player who was the world junior no. 1 in the summer of 2012, having won RG juniors (at least this isn't on clay!) but his quarter looks pretty inviting if he can get past the Belgian teenager.

Update: the weather is on Alex's side, apparently ...
@SamuelGroth: "Tornado warning for Chicago means my flight just got de-boarded and now I'm stuck here! #wow #tornado #ToyotaCH"
