Week 45 - ITF ($10K) - Loughborough, UK Hard

Qualifying draw is up on ITF site and it looks as if Nicole Peterson has made the main draw as well.

Just 3 ranked players - Sabrina, Lauren and a Georgian girl who all have byes

I expect Georgia Craven, Lauren McMinn, Jazz Drew and Rona Berisha to get through to the main draw.

I suspect this will be the main focus of the forum this week, with lots of GB entrants at least 10 in main draw.

Brown, Smith, Fitzpatrick, Boulter, Dunne and Ren made main draw. Lucy should be seeded.

WC's for Christie, Lumsden, Askew and Wallace.

Large entry of GB players in qualifying so would hope half the field will be GB representatives and a few points gained.

Qualifying draw should be available shortly.

5 guaranteed GB qualifiers.
Will be interesting to see if Grace Dixon's good showing last week will continue.
Louie McLelland (recent BT tour winning 15 year-old) is playing an unranked Italian but who has a CH of 1117 so that'll be a tall order.
Georgie was in great form before going off to uni (which I don't think has been plain sailing) so that'll be interesting too.

Just one match left to finish: Georgia Craven v Cecily Wuenscher

Wins for:

Jasmine, Rona, Georgia, Nicola, Jazzamay, Ceire, Louise, Farah, Abigail, Louie and the two Germans

So three foreigners stand in the way of an GB qualifier.

PS Grace, India and Alannah who all did well last week , lost in the opening qualifier.

Play is underway in Loughborough and Grace Dixon taking a beating of a beating from Jasmine (based on the scoreline only, points could in fact be very closely fought of course).

Rona Berisha 6-2 Dominique Covington
Natalie Wall 2-4 Nicola George (good to see Nicola back playing)
Jasmine Amber Asghar 6-1 Grace Dixon
Georgia Lawson 3-2 Sabrina Federici

Looking at her ITF page, she retired from a match in USA in June of last year and  hasn't played since so I'm guessing an injury has been at the root of her absence?

Thought Grace Dixon would have been more competitive given her results last week.

Jazz Drew won the first set 6-2

Jazz one set all, but 3-0 up in the decider

Natasha Hillyer lost in straight sets and Alannah Griffin has dropped the first set.

Great win for 15 year-old Louie McLelland against the 19 year-old Italian who was WR 1117 two years ago.

Thank heavens I didn't write that because I'm sure someone would have accused me of being overly negative, not getting behind our players, etc! wink

I wish I'd thought of it first though. Spoilsport!

Just looking at all those classic middle-class first names in the qualies draw and thinking how many of them went to/go to comprehensive schools? 1 or 2 I'm sure, but it's not exactly screaming mainstream sport yet on the girls' side. Much work to be done still.
