Week 45 - Challenger (€64,000+H): Slovak Open, Bratislava, Slovakia (hard) - doubles

Jamie/Jordan & the Skupskis are following one another round Europe!  At least this week they're not drawn agin one another in the first round & they're even in opposite halves of the draw. wink

When they surrendered the break they'd engineered in the second set, I was convinced they were going to blow it & they did:

R1:  Uladzimir Ignatik & Illya Marchenko (BLR/UKR) CR 613 (260+353) defeated Jamie Delgado & Jordan Kerr (AUS) CR 232 (112+120) by 7-6(7) 6-7(4) [10-8]  bleh  disbelief

Mr Thiem's ranking is somewhat deceptive: he has played only three doubles tournaments this year. His first two were highly unmemorable, but his last was a run to the SFs of Vienna with Neuchrist, beating Brands/Kohlschreiber and Murray/Peers along the way. Don't have any sense, though, of what he and Mr Bader will be like as a team.

SF:  (4) Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski CR 165 (75+90) vs Henri Kontinen & Andreas Siljeström (FIN/SWE) CR 300 (184+116)

The Finno-Swedish partnership did for the second seeds, Polasek & Rosol, in three sets earlier.

As I half-feared on the evidence of their run to the semi, a straightforward win for the Finno-Swedish partnership:

SF:  Henri Kontinen & Andreas Siljeström (FIN/SWE) CR 300 (184+116) defeated (4) Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski CR 165 (75+90) by 5 & 3  bleh
