Week 44 - Great Britain F23 ($10,000) - Edgbaston (hard)

I have restarted this thread in an attempt to keep it relevant to the tennis as the previously started version had reached 3 pages with, at my count, only 2 tennis related posts.

Can I therefore take the opportunity to request that we remain on topic here and in all other threads. There is a chat section which you are all welcome to use to discuss non-tennis related subjects but in the main part of the forum stick to tennis results, opinions and discussion thereof. Let's draw a line under the personal attacks and insults which have been detracting from what has always been a very friendly board. I don't even want any posts in response to this, any comments either for or against should be sent to me by private message. I will be deleting any further non tennis posts regardless of who they are by.

One final part to my rant, please don't try and get this or any other thread to be the longest ever, that sort of accolade is only worth something if it is unforced.

Now, Edgbaston: when is the qualies draw out? I'm still in New Zealand and have completely lost the plot in terms of days of the week/time etc!!

Ironically enough, the original post of this thread has as much tennis related content as the last one did, and that was one of the bones of contention.

I remember making two tennis related posts there, which have been deleted due to no fault of mine, so I'll have to type all that again...

"Perhaps Neil Pauffley has a wild card here?"

"I wonder if we'll see Richard Bloomfield here? A1, if you can approach Bloomers, can you ask him about his plans for the next year, please?

I hope that we'll see Fitzeh here. And that he'll post here sometime this week, of course"

Repeating my post from the original thread.

Willis, Goodall, Broady, Marsalek, Fitzpatrick, Burton, Ward-Hibbert, Bloomfield, Bambridge, Carter and Malik should all be in the main draw.

Morgan, O'Mara, Orton, Hutt and Clayton are all possible wild cards as they were on the qualifying entry list but not in the draw. A couple of them may have made the main draw after late withdrawals. As has been pointed out Pauffley is another possible wild card.

Qualifying draw is unusually strong with 17 ranked players including a wild card entry from Farquharson.

Really curious to see if Fitzy plays. He is just back off a couple of really long trips with Sloane (USA and Asia swings) and I think there is every chance that next week he may be on hitting duties at the O2 as last year, which may require him to be there a couple of days before it all starts.

So it wouldn't surprise me if he isn't playing this week, although it would be great if he was.

I  think given his circumstances earlier in the year he had no real choice but to take up the opportunity with Sloane. Maybe once he has a few quid in the bank he might take a different course.

He might have, especially if other avenues have opened up, but then again, RJA could be right that what has happened over the last few months might have the complete opposite effect.

At the time he got the job with Sloane, he was still suffering the effects of illness so probably wouldn't have had a good autumn anyway. The way things have worked out, he has probably got some very valuable experience which he might be able to use to help his own game, hopefully at least a bit more money and quite possibly even more incentive to try to make it.

I have just spoke to Neil Pauffley he said hasn't taken a wild card instead he is focusing on a training block with coach Leighton Howard at the Nottingham performance centre

Its great to see the young 15 year old  Alex Canter winning matches in Edgbaston  qualifying

I was lucking enough to watch him & his father in training sessions  . He has been regularly hitting with ATP ranked players eg marcus willis , Since he was 13 . No expense is spared to do everything to the highest possible standards it's a quality of training & commitment of the highest standard .

Just swapped Tweets with Fitzy who is in "playful" mood. I asked if he was playing this week.

His response - "It's a surprise".
