Week 44 - ITF ($75K) - Barnstaple, UK Hard

Hev, Joko, Tara, Naomi, Jade, Emily and Mel in the main draw. Sam was a late withdrawal.

Cannot see any of our girls getting through qualis, but Katy Dunne has the most ability of them all and may cause a surprise.

One would hope Anna Smith stood a chance as well.

I'm afraid that I have actually been pretty disappointed by Anna Smith's lack of progress after a not unpromising start back, which is now some time ago.

There may be extenuating circumstances that I am not at all aware of, but I expected much more.

Indy I saw her in Edinburgh and she looked quite good.

Saw her again at Roehampton she had strapping on her leg

Agree results not great but is she fully fit?

bout 4 weeks ago i was thinking the same and looked at her results

shes had stinking draws

in fact has hardly lost to a player ranked below her and many WR much higher (150 159 119 222 215 251 227)

other losses against pippa horn twice and a RET v katie boulter well theyre two bright prospects and thats not so surprising

I only actully see one bad result, in antalya

could mebbe criticise her selection of events not entering more 10ks on the continant to give her more chance of more match wins rather than uk 25-75s

still i think with all that said from UNR to inside top 700 is fine enough

hope better draws and better luck next year

Cheers guys. Seems there are some extenuating circumstances.

I do hope Anna's luck changes, and in particular she can get and remain fully fit.

looks like you get a point for a quali win, so 4 girls guaranteed a point.

Anyone know what's up with Sam? Injured?

I think steven (?) said that she'd picked up a niggling injury but I might be making that up and I've no idea what . . .

I can't remember whether I said that or not, but that was the impression I was under - I just can't remember what the source was. Horrible timing for her given how good an autumn she had last year.

Lauren has lost her first set 6-2.
Sabrina looks like winning the first set against India - 5*-1 up

Great start by Grace Dixon taking the first set 6-2 and a break up in the second set.

Katy lost the first set 6-3 but 3-0 up in second.
