Wonders will never cease! The Beeb's actually noticed Jamie's steady progress back up the rankings in partnership with John! disbelief  Their combined ranking is now 59, with Jamie ranked 30th & John 29th. smile

Gimeno & Hajek hit back, winning the second set by 6-4 to take the match into an MTB. hmm

But Jamie & John get there without too much further ado:

R1: (4) Jamie Murray & John Peers (AUS) CR 59 defeated Daniel Gimeno & Jan Hajek (ESP/CZE) CR 727 by 6-0 4-6 [10-6] smile

QF: (4) Jamie Murray & John Peers (AUS) CR 59 vs (WC) Maximilan Neuchrist & Dominic Thiem (AUT/AUT) CR 1120

The Austrian wild cards took out the vastly more experienced Daniel Brands & Philipp Kohlschreiber (CR 378) in the first round & may prove a bit of a handful.

Via ZooTennis, a nice Australian article on John Peers: www.theage.com.au/sport/tennis/peers-is-making-his-mark-at-the-double-20131015-2vkvt.html

Thiem lost in a third set tiebreak to Tsonga so he will need a rest so it will be a late one here

First set down the pan by 3-6, even though Thiem was on court for almost 2¼ hours against JWT! hmm

The young Austrian wild cards are simply refusing to be shaken off.  Crunch time approaching:  *4-5 to Jamie & John in the second set...

I guess their purple patch had to come to an end sooner or later:

QF:  (WC) Maximilan Neuchrist & Dominic Thiem (AUT/AUT) CR 1120 defeated (4) Jamie Murray & John Peers (AUS) CR 59 by 3 & 4 bleh

Funny things happen when "home teams" play. Ah well, given that (I think ... though doubting my mental processes given other comments I've made) Steven had already noted that they couldn't get much further in the Race to London anyway this week ... and most of their opponents have fared no better, no harm done. More time to rest up for the larger tournaments.
