2013 Doubles Race to the WTF

On the Shanghai thread ...

Is there a page like this one www.tennis4wta.com/Siralama/s1_50.html for dubs teams. My head is s*****d trying to work out what each team needs to do to qualify.

Mine too!

So I've set up a table for the top 20 teams, which I intend to keep going through Shanghai and then pick up again for Paris.

Before I think about risking tweeting that link, I'd be grateful if people could point out any obvious errors.

One thing I really don't know about is whether Shanghai points will have to replace previous scores (and thus may not get added in full for some teams) or whether a space is left in the best 18 scores for the remaining Masters events (I guess maybe not, given that they don't know in advance who will get into the Masters events and thus have to count them as mandatories) and I can't easily tell how it works from the points breakdowns on the ATP site, because they only show doubles points per player with nothing to show what each team's best 18 scores are made up of ...

If nobody else knows, I might try to work it out from the breakdowns tonight (by reconciling what the existing race totals are made up of), though since the individual player breakdowns don't even make it obvious who the partner was for each tournament, I might give up and leave the table as a 'secret' one just to give us a rough guide!

Just found the list of doubles contenders here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_ATP_World_Tour_Finals - from which it looks like any points added in Shanghai will be counters because no teams have got more than 16 non-zero scores on their list.

Thanks steven, I love your table. I'm no expert so won't even try to tell you whether it's correct or not. Looks good to me is all I can say.

Marrero/Verdasco just edged the Italians to move back up to 7th, with the result that Jamie & John (up 1 to 11th this week) are now slightly further behind 8th place - they trail the Poles (now 8th again since Marrero/Verdasco have overtaken them) by 555 points, while Dom & Treat (up 2 to 13th this week) trail the Poles by 765.

However, the two pairs with a Brit in them are the only pairs in the 8th-20th range in the Race who have made the QFs in Shanghai

I think Jamie & John really needed to win today to have anything more than a fairly big outside shot.

Yes, hardly surprising. Though to be honest, even if they are, they might as well save themselves for a 500 series event and Paris but I doubt they are likely to get into the latter.

Why do say that? All 3 of our teams will have a combined ranking of below 60, which pretty much guarantees them entry.

 Yes, I'm also confused. For Shanghai Adv - 59 ; On Site - 78.

Sorry, you're right - I was thinking Paris would have a tighter cut than Shanghai, not realising that while the singles draw in Paris is smaller (48 c.f. 56), the doubles draw is the same size.

I knew my cluelessness re. doubles would be exposed at some point no

Hi steven, FYI I think your formula for the 'from J/J' column is pointing to the wrong reference.

Thanks - something went slightly wrong when I made a few minor changes last night to reduce the width of the table - now corrected.
