At WR 961, even - she dropped another 6 places today.

There are only 25 players in the main draw. As last week, this would be good if she wins her R2 match (4 points for beating an unranked player) but means she won't get any points for losing in R2, whereas if there had been 3 more (unranked) entrants, she'd have had at least 1 easy point for a R1 win.

Of course, it could well be argued that if you can't win a R2 match against one of the unseeded players here, you probably don't deserve any ranking points from the tournament.

Good news for Laura :

L16: (5) Laura Deigman WR 961 def. Samantha Kölliker (SUI) UNR 6-0 6-3

In the quarter final, it'll probably be another Swiss woman, Giger, WR 908 but they're still playing at the moment.

However, that's already Laura's best result since back in May and should get her back to near her CH.

Kölliker wasn't a qualifier (that was my mistake earlier in the thread) - her R1 opponent had been. However, why they deemed 4 players to have had to go through qualifying (even if they didn't play a match) when there were 7 R1 byes in the main draw, I really don't know!
