I have been fortunate to meet many talented CEOs during my career to be honest i would find it difficult to remember one with more natural charisma , expert people skills and refreshing down to earth attitude than Roger Draper .There were criticisms of his salary c £400,000 including Bonus to be honest I reckon that's about the going rate .
Sadly , the media with their limited knowledge tend to measure GB tennis success on the number of mens players we have in the ATP top 100 . Roger has departed during a year that has certainly been the best in GB tennis for decades .One huge success was the procuring by Roger Draper of Aegon as a sponsor who have been extremely generous .Roger will certainly be a tough act to follow !
Yes i did apply for the job and was told by a respondent from the agency that I was one of 80 applicants ! The gist of the telephone interview from the appointed agency handling the search for a new CEO was that I had the business credentials but that i would be too revolutionary ; i did say that i would donate my salary to a new players ATP performance fund the interviewer said i might upset the status quo . He certainly got that right ! Lol

I actually think there was more criticism resulting from falling grass roots participation levels, which is definitely a concern.
That was one of the criticisms but he help create greatest year in GB tennis but was continued slated normally around the time of wimbledon . But when Andy won the Wimbledon
Title no body in GB tennis or the media said well done Roger Draper .
So I am saying it hear - well done Roger you did a great job !

Probably because very few people see Andy's success as something that Draper deserves any credit for.
I am not saying that Roger Draper is going to be an easy act to follow, but I fail to see what a person who was appointed in 2006 has anything to do with Andy Murray.
Unfortunately Roger did have faults, most notably to those on the outside constantly portraying an unbalanced ( often goal post shifting ) image of the state of British tennis. He so often jumped up to celebrate success without any real balance or context or admission of areas of concern that his utterings steadily became less seriously taken by the media, indeed almost sneered at. The British media is far from perfect, particularly with regards to British tennis, but in this case they had a point. Don't treat people as idiots ! He clearly saw it as his job to "sell" British tennis, but increasingly it seemed he'd be better just keeping quiet.
I have no real idea how he did his job on a day to day basis, though funding bodies have publicly criticised the LTA with regards to their abilities to spread tennis at the grassroots level.
Charismatic to some no doubt ( and if that helped in such as bringing sponsors onboard, good ), but to those with any real knowledge of the true overall state of British tennis, he so often came across as a used car salesman. That cannot be good, and was a great pity, because taken in the round there were quite often notable successes and progress to report.
There is no doubt that especially around Wimbledon time the media often come across as unreasonable / unrealistic / ignorant re British players, and that could often be unfair to the players, the LTA and Roger Draper.
That said, at times the LTA could have been better at adding context and support to such as our often derided former GB no 2, Alex Bogdanovic.
And as had been said. well done to Roger Draper for Andy Murray's Wimbledon triumph - really ? why ?
I think procuring Aegon as a sponsor was huge !
And certainly helped players funding . Could the LTA afford mourhinio or ferguson to come out of
We need a maverick with the courage to seize the legacy !

We will never know whether an alternative Chief Executive would have found a better or worse sponsor.
I have no doubt Roger Draper's "charima" has been really useful in such as sponsorship, and AEGON have made a huge commitment, so British tennis should be very thankful for Roger Draper's part in that.
I would thogh like to see leaders that could portray a much more balanced viewpoint on the state of British tennis than Roger Draper has done and you do.
If, like in other European countries, you had a big solid base of Jo-Bloggs players who paid their Federation dues at the start of the year, then you wouldn't need a sponsor. It funds itself.
Maybe Roger Draper should have looked down that route then he would have had players AND full coffers.

i dont think Roger Draper contributed anything to Andys Development or winning Wimbledon. I am at a loss that you can think that way.

Actually it was £640,000. And as I pointed out in January:
A bit more sleuthing, and we have the following (all for 2011):
LTA - Turnover: £62m, CEO pay: £640,000, CEO pay as % of turnover: 1%
RFU - Turnover: £117m, CEO pay: £239,000, CEO pay as % of turnover: 0.2%
FA - Turnover: £329m, CEO pay: £528,000, CEO pay as % of turnover: 0.2%
ECB - Turnover: £146m, CEO pay: £310,000, CEO pay as % of turnover: 0.2%
So, on this admittedly crude measure, we have a "going rate" for Roger Draper's job of £124,000 pa!
I have no idea whether he's competent, but his remuneration is egregiously indefensible - as one might infer from the DEAFENING SILENCE from the LTA. Which is in itself pretty indefensible for a semi-public body.
