There isn't much decent cover for the US in singles if Querrey or Isner are injured. Sock, Kudla and Russell are the next 3 in the rankings.

Were the Bryans not talking about possibly retiring from tennis soon? or is that something i've made up

If we are to lose though, I would much rather it was to Spain or Serbia, so that we turned any following meeting down the line into a home tie.

Bob in the USA will need to leave his car at home.

Wonder where in USA the tie will be held? Any ideas? When will it be announced?

Road trip from Brazil to the US? (Probably not the safest drive, but would be fascinating).

Now that very long way.  Many km and many bad places to cross through. Take Bob 2 weeks get there and 2 weeks get back, if he survive.

Sound like fun.  wink

You could maybe do a Robert Dee and pick up a main draw wild card for a Challenger in Mexico City on the way wink

At least there is a good chance that the Americans won't put the match on clay.

I don't think it's too bad a match up. I think Muzz would fancy winning his two matches, and he'll be up for the tie as he'll be going back to the States following the US Open anyhow, if he follows his previous few years schedules.

I would give Dan a fighting chance of winning one of the two singles, particularly on hard, and the doubles would always offer a chance, particularly if Muzz makes himself available for on all 3 days (or if Ross if back on his top form by then)

US favourites, but not overwhelmingly so.

i would have same team that beat the Croats. However I would have Fleming/Marray in doubles. Andys matches would be harder need him fresh. I dont think Isner is very talented big serve nothing else just my opinion

Mr Murray is clearly a little less sanguine than most commentators:

Piers Newbery ‏@piersnewbery 5h

GB away to USA in 2014 @DavisCup. Tough but could be worse. Where to get the 3rd point against Isner, Querrey & the Bryans? 31 Jan - 2 Feb.

Andy MurrayVerified account ‏@andy_murray

@piersnewbery do we go into the tie with a 2 zero head start? Or are you just assuming beating 6ft 10 guy with rocket serve is a given?

Interesting, assuming Andy is fit it should be a humdinger of a tie, and hopefully the right result. The Bryan's are just about unbeatable at DC level, so we are definitely underdogs, but ones with a reasonable shout.

They've lost both the matches they've played this year.
