Weeks 35 & 36: US Open (hard) - mixed doubles

Just when I thought we Brits weren't going to be represented in this competition, I spotted this:

R1:  Nuria Llagostera (ESP) & Colin Fleming CR  (ATP+WTA) 39 vs Lucie Hradecka & Frantisek Cermak (CZE/CZE) CR 51

Decent choice of partner for Colin - if they can gel quickly - but another lousy draw:  if they win, they'll almost certainly face the top seeds, Anna-Lena Grönefeld & Alexander Peya (GER/AUT) (CR 15) (how strange not to see a Bryan + AN Other occupying  the top spot, but neither of the brothers appears to be giving the mixed a go this year! disbelief ) in the second round. hmm

The Bryans are going for the Grand Slam this year, so I would imagine they are keeping their powders dry for this one.

I think at least one of them has said that he won't do mixed at all henceforth, as a concession to advancing age and the need to conserve energy, as chavkev says. Could be wrong on that, though. Whatever they're doing, it obviously works. 7,000 points ahead in the team race and 8.000+ in the rankings?!!!!
