Unbelievable! Well done Dan.
It goes without saying that I had Nishikori to go deep in Battle of the Boards though.......

I didn't, have Dan going through to R3!!!  He played very well today against an opponent who didn't work out what to do against Evo at all.  Well deserved for SuperDan!

Ha, I had Nish beating Fed!

Nevermind, I'm thrilled for Dan.

Luke Bambridge reports this from Evo yesterday:

"If I'm serving good. I'm taking Kei out for sure tomorrow"

Cheeky ... but you have to believe in this game, and he certainly delivered on it. His 1st serve % wasn't even that good either (unless it improved a lost in the 3rd set)

Now.....can anyone remind me why Dan was not given a Wild Card into Wimbledon???? Esp as there were extra that were given to those who should have instead headed to the qualifying?

I'm still glad that he wasn't. I think that our younger players should be made to fight and prove their worth/resolve instead of being handed so much ie coaching WCs and funding. Dan has fought his was through qualies, and it seems to have given him the confidence and tools to have taken out Kei.

wow.....so so happy for EVO......sadly had to listen via 5liveextra occassional updates while they persisted with a below average womens match. Seems daft to type this but judging by the commentary i did hear the level of tennis "sounded" great! After Bob's performance in the previous pick em should we doubt his mystic meg abilities this time :)

I haven't even entered this time. Missed the boat through being on the road.

Brilliant! Chuffed about this result! His results have been so consistent lately. Very impressed. Honestly expected a loss today, was just hoping for a battling performance. Like being proven wrong by our Brits! I'm really impressed that he won his first GS match so convincingly against a player on the brink of the top ten. OUTSTANDING!

I wish they would put a written version on the site. In that interview there seemed to be a lot of very long questions which I couldn't hear at all, and Dan's answers rarely made it clear what the question had been

Neil Harman: "Bar Andy, Tim and Greg, only Brits to beat player inside top 15 in slam - Jeremy Bates (Chang) and Nick Brown (Ivanisevic) both at Wimbledon"

I'm sure Roger Taylor managed it, but probably just before the ATP rankings began.

Anyway, in other words, Evo is the only Brit other than Andy, Tim and Greg to beat a top 15 player at a slam other than Wimbledon. That's quite something really.

Well there you go, terrific result for Evo.
I was pretty confident Evo would be competitive today , even more so when I saw Nishikori's recent record, and I was pretty confident he would win a set, but I never believed for 1 minute that he would actually win, 6/1 were the odds.
I've always been a believer in Evo's ability but when I saw him live at Notts that changed to being confident he could be a top 100 player and a legend in the game in terms of British standards. There's plenty of folk that have told that as well.
But in the last month his level has jumped by another couple of notches. Working with Speedo has definitely been a big factor with regards to improving his fitness.
Never showed any nerves and watch out tennis world this kid has what it takes to get inside the top 50 if he maintains this momentum.

Does any one have a handy list of Brits who have won a Grand Slam main draw match in the last 15-20 years (excluding Andy, Tim and Greg).

The only thing I can say is if you can maximise the volume on the actual video not just the computer speakers, sometimes it is possible to make out some of the questions, not clear, but better than nothing.

Fantastic win - shame you don't get that many points for beating a seed in a grand slam!!!

Dan should be around 150 in the provisional rankings and should get him a seeding in challengers now.
