Heartbreaking in the end but such a testament to Dan that that should be the case against Robredo who was always going to be a much much bigger ask than the others.

Nonetheless it has been wonderful to see a Brit play the role of qualifier making a go of things at a slam when I'm so used to seeing anyone but a Brit do it.

I hope that wherever Dan goes to next he can continue this massive improvement in his level and consistency and I think no more challengers after 2013 would be a suitable goal for him don't you.

P.s. it was mentioned at the beginning of this thread that it would be nice for it to have as many replies as the qualies one did, I think this desire may well be the real motivation for Dan's results this week

One thing that also mitigates the pain of the defeat is that if he had won it in 5 I really do have to wonder if he would have had anything left for the next round. Playing Federer on Ashe would have course been nice but I am not sure that a knackered Dan beeing thrashed out of sight would have been a fitting end to his six weeks in the states. Much better for it end like this with a match that encapsulates all that he has done well over those 6 weeks but also acts as a reminder of where he still has to improve.
