Not cat in hells chance of Dankevic winning, how do we feel about Robredo ?

I wouldn't say that. Dankevic is getting some of the best results of his career right now. He must be inspired by the three young Canadians making great strides in the game right now. I'm sure Canadian tennis fans would have said the same about the Evans-Tomic match too.

Fair comment but I've seen Dankevic play a few times and wouldn't expect him to beat Robredo, then most people wouldn't have expected Dan to win this match.

That said there's no reason why Evans can't make the fourth round now.

Ps Jack are you sure he's only in the top 150 now. Two wins and three qualifying rounds must surely bump him up more than 20 odd places no?

Jack is correct.  Estimated at the low 140s.

Yes, ATP points aren't that high in the early rounds of slams (10-45-90 c.f. 5-100-160 for the women, also just 25 points for qualifying cf 60 for the women) and once you start getting up to these levels, you aren't going up one place (or more) per point as you generally would outside the top 200.

Dan has added a net 109 points here (25 for qualifying + 90 for R3 - 6 coming off) for a rise of probably just over 30 places.

Of course, he can rightly claim, as of this week, to be in the world's top 32 . . .

Wow totally forgot about Dan's match but then see this result.

Amazing. Well Done Dan.

I hope this is just the next step in his career and he manages to break into the 100 now

On Saturday 31st August 2013 Dan Evans ( provisionally ranked at a CH of about WR 143 ) is scheduled to compete in the last 32 of the US Open, with a not unreasonable chance of another victory, which would likely bring a last 16 meeting with Roger Federer.

On Friday 31st August 2012 Dan Evans WR 337 lost in the semi finals of the Chiswick 10K futures event 6-0 6-2 to Tom Burn WR 783. Tom Burn no longer competes on the professional tour.

Really hacked off the BBC didn't put this on radio, until the last couple of games. I was a classic match! How can they think that cricket is better than tennis, and then slag off our players for not performing well enough???

Well done Evo!

Nice to look forward to three Brits in the third round

Can't believe he was in Wrexham last year (as he said in his last presser), I was there and thinking he was an a**e. He's really turned himself around, mainly due to tough love methinks - LTA take notice!!

Only hope he builds on this and never has to land in Wrexham again with Greg having to hold his hand.

Fantastic win. Tomic never really got back into the game after the second set and it was pretty much Evo dominance. The think that must really confuse opponents is that he can switch game plans at will. Play baseline, serve and volley, aggressive forehand, drop shots which must make the opposition think twice about their own tactics.

I hope Dan puts up a good show on Saturday. If he serves well he has a chance.
