Week 32 - Egypt F19 ($10,000) - Sharm el Sheikh (clay)

One Brit in a half-empty qualifying draw:

FQR: Jack Saunders UNR v (wc) Lewis Bumgardner (USA) UNR

I assume his opponent's surname is an Americanised version of the name Baumgartner - if so, they might have been better advised to leave it as it was winkdisbelief

Noticed that one for the first time last week, Steven, & I agree with you.  If it is, they should have left well alone!

Came across another mind-boggling (if appropriate for a tennis player) one today:  Becker O'Shaughnessey... disbelief  No prizes for guessing his nationality! wink  I despair of parents who insist on giving their offspring surnames as first (they can hardly be called Christian) names. evileye

A 'bum' result in more ways than one

FQR: Jack Saunders UNR lost to (wc) Lewis Bumgardner (USA) UNR by 0 & 1

What an unfortunate surname.

There is an American baseball pitcher for the San Fransisco Giants called Madison Bumgarner. Must be another variation. Perhaps they should trade him for Oakland pitcher Bartolo Colon.

There is some cracking names in US sports in general. For example, the Hawaiian football player called Wave Ryder. Gotta love the parents who gave him that name lol.

Another personal favourite is Ron Artest, who got bored one summer and legally changed his name to Metta World Peace. Most incredibly the sports websites and American commentators actually use his new name with a straight face as if Ron Artest never existed.
