L28: Laura Robson WR 31 v Ayumi Morita (JPN) WR 51 (CH 40 in 2011)

The winner plays 3rd seed Petra Kvitová in R2.

Laura has played Morita twice before, beating her 76(5) 10 ret at the 2011 US Open but losing 2&5 on clay in Oeiras this year.

Good chance for Laura to get a win that would almost secure a US Open seeding, but Laura has started slowly on each change of surface this season.

Lisa only played with Dani because Laura was not available..........and I am not in the least surprised wink

 

Oh and the American pair are the defending holders of this title.

surprised robmond are back here as lisa has made the prem sf this week with dani H

anyways not a great draw in r1 against 3 seeded kops jones/spears - but robmond won in miami, so who knows!!!

Dominica Cibulkova is the guest interviewer which maker Laura look even taller than she already is.

Morita is obviously no pushover but I have high hopes for Laura this week. Hopefully she can pull ahead at 5-5 in the second set and secure the win.

Df on set point was very generous. Plenty of 2nd serves in that game. 1 set all.

Hoping for better serving from Laura in the final set.

Looked like Laura might be on quite quickly after a 1hr 2min 1st match, but the next match has just had a 1hr 16min first set!
