I'm pretty sure Jack's opponent is the grandson of Alex Metreveli who was the runner-up at Wimbledon 40 years ago.

Not the best of starts. Jack lost the first set 6-3.

Currently 4-3* up in the second.

That's more like it. Jack gets his first break of the match to take the second set 6-4. Prior to the last game of that set he hadn't even had a break point.

The third set has gone badly, badly wrong. Jack trails *0-4

And Jack loses the final set 6-1, failing to hold serve once.

Sorry about Jack's result but my day has just been made by seeing that the match about to come features a guy called Tuna Altuna

TUNA ALTUNA - I kid you not . . .

(sorry if everyone knows him but that's just brilliant . . . )

Tuna Altuna is a player how is well known to this forum, at least by name. He is responsible for some very bad jokes.

Disappointed by Jack's result but in all honesty, not too surprised. Jack is a lot more comfortable on the clay and I think this is his first Futures tournament on Hard Court this year. Having said that, given the weak draw, I was hoping for a decent run - but not to be.

Before this week he has played 8 tournaments on hard courts this year reaching one final and 3 quarter finals. I would guess the problem was more likely to him being a bit rusty after a few weeks off.

I really must do my homework before posting no

My excuse is that it is very early on Monday morning here and I am not awake yet. I  really thought he has stuck to clay so far this year.

Jack crashed out of the doubles, too:

R1:  Rudy Coco & Laurent Malouli (FRA/FRA) CR 2030 defeated (4) Jack Carpenter & Robert Coman (ROU) CR 2493 by 3 & 4

Going by yesterday's rankings, the Frogs should have been the seeded pair anyway! hmm

R1:  Tinotenda Chanakira & Ricky Ventura (ZIM/ESP) UNR defeated Ren Nakamura (JPN) & Rafael Peters (new name on me) UNR by 0 & 5
