though you had to have a ranking to play in challengers or is it just atp events you need a ranking?

Strange that Wardy not playing, presume he can't be in the main draw as Q1 is higher ranked? Thought he might have chanced his arm at ATP qualies again but not turned up in Hamburg.

Hamburg: if he did go there, then it looks like he just missed out - the last direct acceptance into qualifying was Robin Kern, who was ranked 4 places ahead of him at the relevant date (24 June)

Digging deeper, it turns out Krajinovic was ranked 444 on 24 June (the relevant date for main draw entries here) to Alex's 396, which held out hope that Alex might have made the main draw in Poznan but the 2nd and 3rd seeds in qualifying (Monteiro and Dan) were both ranked higher than Alex at that date, so unless neither of them entered originally, Alex can't be in the main draw here.

Alex would have made the main draw in Turkey but withdrew from there late on, perhaps not surprisingly given that he is in the middle of a clay court swing and that the Turkish Challenger is on hard.
