Week 26 - ITF $10K - Melilla, Spain - Hard

5 byes in the main draw of a 10K - not something I can remember seeing before! Asking Spaniards to play a home 10K on hard courts on the coast of Morocco is clearly a good way to limit their numbers wink

L32: Hayley Macpherson UNR v Melanie Stokke (NOR) WR 1160
L32: Lauren McMinn WR 1160 v Pilar Domínguez-López (ESP) WR 886

L16: Macpherson or Stokke v (1) Lucía Cervera-Vázquez (ESP) WR 558
L16: (5) Lucy Brown WR 703 v McMinn or Domínguez-López

The winners of these two R2 matches play each other in the QFs.

Not the best start here ...

L32: Hayley Macpherson UNR lost to Melanie Stokke (NOR) WR 1160 by 0 & 0
L32: Lauren McMinn WR 1160 lost to Pilar Domínguez-López (ESP) WR 886 1 & 1

Sadly, that means Lauren will lose her WTA singles ranking at the end of Wimbledon, having just joined the rankings recently.

L16: (5) Lucy Brown WR 703 v Pilar Domínguez-López (ESP) WR 886 (CH 573 in 2010)

H2H 0-1, 3 sets, Mollerusa 2010

What is the rule for this - does Lucy get a point, just for turning up? as she has a bye in the first round.

I checked last night - the WTA rulebook doesn't seem to cover this in its 500+ pages (or maybe I just missed it) but the ITF rulebook looked to me to imply that she doesn't get any points unless she wins her first (i.e. R2) match - I decided to check properly tomorrow if she loses in R2 and hope she doesn't!

No she wouldn't get a point for losing r2. Being a doubles follower I know you get points for walkovers and not byes!

Lucy *3-2 at present, although this is her 2cd break as she got broke straight back the 1st time.

But manages to hold this time to go 4-2*
