Good to see we have a couple of representatives in this competition:
R1: Heather Watson & Jonny Marray vs Alizé Lim & Jérémy Chardy (FRA/FRA) R1: Kirsten Flipkens (BEL) & Colin Fleming vs (WC) Alizé Cornet & Gilles Simon (FRA/FRA)
* Any omissions/typos are the result of my having left my reading glasses on the (Micky O'Mouse Air) flight back from Barcelona to Stansted yesterday, so I'll be struggling to read text on screen until SpecSavers provides me with a replacement pair...

Welcome back, SC. RJA in particular has been doing a sterling job on the doubles updates while you've been away but you've definitely been missed Hope the holiday (?) was good.

Spectator, Steven: many thanks for the warm welcome back. I had no idea my absence would be noticed. Yes, it was a holiday: a trip from NW (sort of) to NE Spain in 10 days called "Wine, walks & tapas" - Bilbao-Logroño (capital of La Rioja)-Montblanc (just inside Catalunya) (via Zaragoza)-Barcelona (via Penedès & Montserrat), mostly familiar territory, but I still enjoyed it. Good group, weather not too bad after the first four days & we tasted some interesting & (in this country) unfamiliar wines.
Flew out from Stansted with easyJet, so relatively civilised, but I left my car there, so I needed to go back there. Only trouble is, easyJet doesn't fly from Barcelona to Stansted, whereas Mickey O'Mouse Air does. I resented having to line Michael O'Leary's pockets again, but I really had no option. I won't be able to pick up my new specs until next Monday (I was unable to speak to a human being when I tried to report the loss on Sunday, being forced instead to leave a recorded message, so I don't hold out any hope of recovering the pair I left on the aircraft), but I keep the pair from my last prescription in a drawer of my desk at work (it's not unknown for me to forget to take my glasses with me when I leave for work in the morning...). They're slightly weaker, but they're a helluva lot better than having to struggle to read with my distance glasses in dim light, so I can now cope until then.
Apparently Alizé & Jérémy are a couple (I thought couples weren't meant to risk playing mixed doubles together LOL) - something I found out from this article about a rather apt tweet from the former:
Odd. A thread opened for the mixed but not for the Women's Doubles. Perhaps foretelling that we shall need more pages as they will go further in the tournament?
Let's hope!
However Colin and partner are 2 - 4 down in the first set
