Both Brits are in the 2nd quarter with 3rd seed Kostova & 6th seed Smitkova.

L32: Jade Windley WR 393 v (Q) Louise Boinay (SUI) UNR (CH 1061 last Oct)
L32: Amanda Carreras WR 308 v Cecilia Costa Melgar (CHI) WR 368 (= CH)

This week last year, Melgar needed a 3rd set tiebreak to see off Nik Slater in Sumter but she reached the QFs of Caracas 25K earlier this month.

If confirmed, she will play Victoria Kan(RUS) who is a very talented Russian, only 17, at a CH and had a great season so far at 10k and 25k level

I noticed Kan had got through by retirement against the 6th seed today and thought that might be a bit of luck for Amanda, but then I realised the Russian is WR 304 at just 17 and thrashed Amanda 2 & 1 in Sevilla back in the autumn of 2011 ...

A good choice by the girls though to go to Morocco - 8 points will do nicely (more if possible, of course . . . ).
Amanda (Mandy?) will break into the top 300 for the first time, won't she ?

 

oops - just noticed that she has 12 points to come off in two weeks time, after RG, when the 8 go on ?

No Mandy has 6pts to drop off this week, so her ranking will not really be affected unless she manages a victory.

Both girls will be big underdogs in the 2nd round.

WilliamDalton8 (on Twitter, though I think he reads this forum too) has outdone me by finding the correct site for this tournament and hence a drawsheet that is quicker to update. Sadly. it's not good news:

In reality it wasn't a suprise that both lost the singles - Mandy was playing an up and coming youngster who is flying up the rankings and Jade drew one of the top seeds.
