It looks like James Ward made it into the main draw in the end without having to go through qualifying.

Dan played Futures qualifying four times in 2008, losing in straight sets in QR1 each time to fellow-Brits who have never been ranked in the top 1000. He then went to college in Savannah and his only appearance in an ATP-ranked event since was in qualifying here two years ago, when he took a set off Michael Yani in QR1, so he had obviously improved quite a bit! Dan has had a bit of luck drawing a college team-mate in QR1 - Dan played at no. 3 for his college team in their last match, Lalic at no. 4 ... and Kyle's opponent at no. 6, though the latter actually has an ATP ranking, having beaten a player now ranked just outside the top 750 to make R2 of Gandia Futures last July.
In fact, Kyle has a decent-looking draw generally - potentially meeting the 8th qualifying seed in QR2 and the 4th in the FQR is as good as you can hope for if you're not seeded yourself.

If I am not mistaken, that is Kyle first competitive win since the 2nd round in Umag on 7th March. Whilst I was delighted for him to make it into the Davis Cup squad, it is a shame that he has come into these two Challenger events on the back of a 6 week break.
The original schedule was to play two futures leading up to these two Challengers which I think would have helped him. Let's hope today's win will blow off a few of those cobwebs.
The main draw is out and Ward isn't playing here. Both SE positions were taken (Kuznetsov and Molchanov) so he would have had to go through qualies if he had wanted to play.

I wonder why he didn't play qualifying here. Maybe he's still feeling the effects of his DC exertions a bit and didn't want to play even more matches here when the chance of picking up points is so low.
James not playing here makes it certain that there will be no Brits other than Andy in the ATP top 250 on Monday week - in fact, the GB no. 2 will probably be ranked in the 270s.
