GB nos 9 & 10 head to Corsica (nice work if you can get it! ) but haven't got the nicest of draws:
L32: Dan Smethurst WR 371 v (Q) Antoine Hoang (FRA) UNR (in fact, "inactive" according to the ATP!) L32: Alex Ward WR 456 v (8) Nikola Ciric WR 349 (CH 151 in 2011)
The not so nice bit about Dan's draw is that the winner of his R1 match will play top seed Guez or world junior no. 7 Tatlot (who reached the QFs last week, coincidentally beating Ciric in R1) in R2.
Steven: I've added the name of Dan's qualifier opponent.

Very nice win. Tricky first match on clay, and few dramas.
There is a fairly large discrepancy between that ITF livescore match stats and the tennis ticker match stats (see link on top 25). If the latter is correct (which I have to say seems unlikely in this case), Alex served 95% first serves in set 1, and won 20 out of 20 points on his serve, and didn't face a single BP in the entire match.
Either way few dramas at all. Plenty of time to admire the scenery......a combination of tennis courts, mountains and sandy beaches sounds good to me.

I was following the scores on Bet365, he did face a couple of Bps, but not too many. also, saw that his serve was around the 65% mark. Anyone know what time the doubles is on?
Re. SC's edit in the first post - Hoang is playing in his first Futures main draw, having qualified at his 8th attempt. He has played in two ITF junior event this year but did manage to make the Final of the second one, a G3.

L32: Dan Smethurst WR 371 beat (Q) Antoine Hoang (FRA) UNR by 4 & 2
L16: Dan Smethurst WR 371 v (1) David Guez (FRA) WR 194 (CH 116, 2010)
H2H 0-1, 5&2, Newcastle Fut. SF 2009
In a bizarre bit of scheduling, despite the fact that Alex played yesterday, it looks like the match to decide his R2 opponent isn't due to be played until tomorrow.
