Joss Rae/Jennifer Ren

Isn't Jennifer Ren at college in the US? This article from last summer http://erauathletics.com/news/2012/5/18/WTEN_0518122028.aspx and http://fpuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1383 both imply she was playing for Fresno Pacific last year but she's not shown on their roster for this semester (see, I'm finally learning all those US college terms LOL), which may mean she is injured, since I doubt she had already been there for 3 years last summer.

Her sister isn't having a great time at the moment, which is a real pity - I get the impression she's suffering from various injury niggles and has just pulled out of this week's British Tour event today, where she was the no. 1 seed.

As for Joss, I'm not sure whether she is still injured and hoping to come back or not - http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/lifestyle/fashion-beauty/tennis-star-jocelyn-models-for-decathlon-1129639 from the grass court season last year is the last reference to her I can find, though I remember seeing something recently (a tweet? I'm not sure) suggesting that she was coaching now - though that still might just be until she is fit enough to mount a proper comeback.

Edit: her last relevant tweet was in December:

"Done with the last of my injections in my foot! Fingers crossed I won't need anymoreee. #ouch #stopstabbingmyfoot Bring on the New Year!!"

There's a fairly high chance someone on here will know more though!

Its Georgie Gent who's coaching. Not sure about Joss but dont feel she was ever a full time player really

Certainly Joss Rae was a full time player with I took it very serious intentions at about ages 18 / 19,

But already before she won Commonwealth Games Mixed Doubles gold with Colin Fleming in 2010 at age 19 she had had injury issues that year and a lot therefter to the extent she effectively disappeared from view.

I haven't heard anything about her or her plans in the last year or so.

I think you're right. I'm impressed that you managed to work out which player I'd mixed her up with! They're not very similar at all, of course, except in the sense that they were promising players, out long-term injured whom we'd like to see back but aren't sure if they'll return.

Joss tweeted me about 18 months ago saying she was hoping to be back post foot injury. Her timetable for return was about a year ago, I think, which makes me slightly concerned for her future. Fingers crossed though, she was a solid prospect.

Yeah we dont have quite enough talented players for me to let them slip off the radar that easily! biggrin

Sorry Indiana, I dont agree with Joss being full time. I dont think she ever even played 20 tournaments a year and was certainly playing far less than her contempories. That doesnt mean that she didnt have good runs and play very promisingly, but whether it was due to injuries or not she certainly under-played IMO.

scottie, I believe you are thinking of someone else who was a controversial choice ahead of Nik Slater for Scotland's 2010 Commonwealth Games team. I forget her name, but more of a coach than a player ( quite a lot of suggestion that Nik's face didn't fit compared to this less talented establishment figure, and Nik let her feelings be known as she can ! )

That wasn't Joss though and I am not aware of any controversial selection with regards to her. As I mentioned, she of course won mixed doublez gold in Delhi in 2010 with Colin Fleming.

I accept what you say, murray_2k9 re maybe total appearances over the years, but I think that was indeed injury related. The point I was trying to make was that her intentions were full time.

Ah, having found the Scotland Commonwealth Games team for 2010, it was Mhairi Brown who was controversially selected ahead of Nik Slater.

Wasn't the controversy over Joss's selection the fact she wasn't actually Scottish? I remember articles referring to her as a local player during the Nottingham tournament one year.

If it were due to injuries then fair enough. Certainly the time she was out of the game suggests she knew she had to do something drastic to have any realistic chance at a career. I hope that she is at least able to get back on tour and have a streak long enough to really develop, gain some momentum and then who knows what she might be capable of achieving.

Josh, I don't really recall any particular issues re Joss's nationality in the Scottish media, but maybe some questions were raised.

But I do know Nik's issues were really with the wothiness pf the Mhairi Who selection. I remember Nik really very much wanted to represent Scotland and in tennis terms I felt very sorry for her since it did very much look an injustice.

She had been recovering from injury by the looks of it https://twitter.com/ManishaFoster (13 Feb tweet to Ons Jabeur) so with any luck she'll be back in action soon.
