L32: (7) Anne Keothavong WR 188 v Margarita Lazareva (RUS) WR 347 (CH 344 last week) L32: Tara Moore WR 209 v (WC) Victoria Rodríguez (MEX) WR 686 (CH 681 in Dec)
Rodríguez is a top 30 junior who reached a 10K Final in Mexico last October but did not play in seniors again until she lost 1 & 2 to Meusberger as a QWC in Acapulco last week.
Going into Indian Wells fortnight, the in-running position (i.e. taking off last year's IW fortnight points) in the 'race' for the GB no. 4 spot is:
291 Bally (currently no. 5, who will stay with that points total) 287 Tara (currently no. 6, who will add any excess over her 16th best of 4) 267 Anne (currently no. 4, who will add any excess over her 16th best of 1)
So, Tara needs to reach the QFs overtake Bally (1 win will take her level on points but I think Elena would stay ahead on tiebreak) and Anne needs to make the SFs to overtake Bally and win two rounds more than Tara to be ahead of her too.

That's a much much tougher draw than in Surprise, and one of the tougher $25ks I've seen, more akin to a $50k. Particularly challenging for Tara. If ahe negotiates r1, would be up against Krunic and then Caroline Garcia, if seedings prevail. After that extraordinary match against Sharapova at the FO when she was just 17 (set and 4-1 and 15-0 up, playing godlike tennis), Caroline has not yet fulfilled her promise. Andy was sure she would be a #1 player one day. Just signs that she is starting to come again, but its disappointing that she finds herself still in $25ks 2 years on.
Very nice draw for Anne to the QF. If she struggles at all, would be worrying.
Big tournament for Tara. Would be easy for her to have a letdown after such a great tournament a couple of weeks ago, and of course now expectations have been raised so more pressure.
Feel Anne should do well this week after a more encouraging week, but the field is quite strong so will be interesting.
