What a pleasant surprise to see lefty Liz Thomas back in action. From what I can remember Liz has/ had a decent forehand and some variety in her game.

Apparently it's not THAT Liz Thomas after all ... I just tweeted the Mallorca draws with a 'blast from the past' note and Jade Windley tweeted back:

"@GBtennis don't think its the same Liz Thomas .. She is in Dubai on hol according to Facebook "

I probably should have twigged when clicking through from the draw on ITF gave me a 'player not found' message, yet I was able to find the 'old' Liz Thomas with a player search on there, but I rashly assumed that they simply hadn't twigged that the player in the draw and the player on their database were the same player because of the amount of time since she last played.

There is no other Elizabeth Thomas on ITF and the second highest rated Elizabeth Thomas on the LTA site is a 1996 player rated 7.1, so it seems unlikely it's her. Then again, she might have been brought up on Mallorca and never registered with the LTA.

The link to a player profile for the mysterious new Elizabeth Thomas now works - once I found she wasn't the 28-year-old Liz Thomas, I was expecting it to be a teenager, but it turns out she is 24. So she might be this player, http://www2.lta.org.uk/Search/PlayerSearch/PlayerDetails.htm?Id=1-WB-26540&BSMGuid=bd96a67a-0fbc-4042-95f2-15dc03b0b70f, who is a 9.2 who hasn't played a ranked event in the UK since 2010.

If she's a 9.2, getting 2 games in R1 of a 10K is a pretty stunning result in a way, but if it is this Liz Thomas, I imagine she has been playing outside the UK and her LTA rating is completely inaccurate.
